Baylor was the better team last night

And they would be if they played tonight. They are long and athletic played pretty well as a team and when they got it rolling they kept their foot on the gas like a good team should. There's no shame in losing to that team. Jackson is a heck of a pg and even with the slow first half you just knew he'd play like he did the 2nd. Losing this game like that will leave a nasty taste in the kids mouth that are returning. That is probably just the right medicine for this group this off season and coach will use that motivation I'm sure. I really wish it wasn't the case tho cause May deserved to go out a winner. He will be missed as were Gatens, and Jared Cole the last couple yrs. Everyone seems to define being "back" as a program differently. I feel that they are now because after that game last night I was ****** at how the game went yet proud of this team and how the year went. I think next year will only be better not necessarily with their record cause the scheduling will be tougher. But I see them dancing in the big one next yr and it should be an awesome time to be a Hawkeye fan.

Agreed. Baylor was the better team last night and that game was a bit of a sore reminder as to the work Iowa still needs to do in terms of personnel, particularly in the paint IMO. Not that we don't have some good pieces, but they need more strength & development (and more good outside shooters), and the future is bright. Next year should be an excellent season, provided everyone works hard in the off-season. As you said, this game ought to serve as just the right dose of "wakeup juice" to keep the guys motivated through the spring and summer.

Fran went 11-18-25 wins in successive seasons. +7 each year. Doubtful that this year's 25 wins will be improved upon much, if it all - winning 25+ games is no easy feat in the Big Ten. But Iowa could very well win 22-23 games next year and get a 5 seed in the big dance. Unless Fran wants to go ahead and win 32 next year to keep the +7 trend going. ;)

I am seeing 32 wins next year, personally, with Iowa going 13-0 in non-conference, 13-5 in league play, 2-1 in the BTT, and 4-1 in the NCAA tourny....yes, that would be losing on FF saturday...and does add up to 32 wins...dream sequence is now ending.

Baylor had more talent than Iowa, and they showed up and played well so it was not a shocking outcome.
Go Hawks!

Baylor is better, but they aren't 20 points better on a normal night. We flat stunk it up shooting last night.

Those expectations are too lofty, IMHO.

Just show me where to sign..

When Baylor shows up they can play with anyone with their talent. With them being in the NIT, they obviously didnt show up enough. Unfortunately last night was one of the nights they did.

Baylor was and is the more talented team. Heck they have 2 future draft picks in the post and Jackson has a good shot of hearing his name called in the 2nd round of this year's draft. No shame in losing to them at all. Shouldn't have been such a point differential but still no shame in losing to such a talented team. I don't know how that team didn't perform better during the regular season because that is a top 15 talented type of team.

Iowa was just a bit short when it came to playing against older better talent this year.
Teams like Wichita St, MSU,Mich,IU,OSU and Baylor come to mind.
We will narrow that very narrow gap further next year.

We pushed against the wall this year in those games...next year we will knock it down and storm thru.

My problem wasn't losing to a better team but the fact that we quit defending late in the game and allowed them to dunk at will on us. I get the shots weren't dropping, but continue to fight. We cashed it in, by no means and I saying that the game was ever in question when we cashed it in, but I was embarassed watching the lack of defense in the closing minutes.

Silver lining from last night might be that at least expectations won't be at a ridiculously high level for next year had we won. One could see that the athleticism to be a top notch team still just isn't there. We win last night and people would be predicting a conference title and a 3 seed in the dance next year. The more realistic outlook is 5th or 6th in the B1G and maybe a 7 or 8 seed in the dance.

We already did that, time to improve next season.

At least some of that was a result of Baylor's passing. There were at least one or two of those late dunks that came after 3-4 quick passes in the paint. Just gorgeous interior ball movement and patience.

not beating many teams shooting the ball that poorly... We've see this before.

Let's just hope we see it a lot less next year.

Since you have a baseball name I'll cut you some slack on your basketball analysis. There's no point in arguing/discussing the finer points. I'm locked in at 14-4 and 2nd place in the conference...probably a 2 seed. Last night did nothing to change my thinking as it relates to next year.
