Mountain West - the #1 RPI conf in America

1-3 in the tournament so far.

16-36 all-time in the NCAA, no team has ever gotten past the Sweet Sixteen from that conference.

Yep, RPI is awesome. Let's use it as tool to help select teams for the Tournament.

Love it. I don't even know who is in that conference. The big was pretty good as far as I'm concerned.

The more things like this happen, and the selection committee ends up with egg on their faces, the better.

On the other hand, Oregon wins the Pac 12 regular season Tournament, the conference tournament, and gets rewarded with a 12 seed. Then they beat the 5 seed. Who knew.

RPI sucks but I don't think that 1-3 in the tournament is really evidence as to why.

Maybe not, but New Mexico was #2 in the RPI if I saw that right. I don't think yesterday's tournament results exactly lend any credibility to the RPI, either.

The selection committee doesn't end up with egg on their faces because there are like 3 or 4 fanbases who realize the lunacy of what happened this year. The other 100 million college basketball fans couldn't care less because their team is either in or wasn't even near the bubble.

rpi-tards will continue to be trapped in their paradigm

instead of questioning rpi, they will praise all the great upsets and excitement of ncaa tournament basketball

the filter creates the view

Pretty much. Fact is, a couple bubble teams who aren't going to win the championship anyways getting left out because of a crappy system isn't enough to cause much of an uproar. I mean, Iowa kind of did get screwed when you look at other resume's and I hardly care.

Interesting match up. An individual team with an overinflated vs a team from a conference with an overinflated RPI

No doubt. This game was made to salvage the RPI.

But seriously Spank, you are the hoops blogger.

You need to do a first round comparison of the way teams fared based on the different ranking systems. Pom, Sag, RPI. If you can make a case that the others are better indicators and do it well, it will go national very quickly - particularly, if we all do our best to send it out there in the Twitterverse.

Doing my part, Sag had the MWC as the Sixth rated conference.

True. I would just like to see the focus shift away from RPI being weighted so heavily in the process, and start considering some of the other processes (Pomeroy, Sagarin, Last 10 games, etc.) as well. I figure stuff like this doesn't hurt. I am probably dreaming, though.

No doubt. I think teams should be selected to the tournament solely based on what the coach did before the season, not what the team did during the season. That's how it is now, and that's why the Mountain West is undoubtedly better than the rest of us.

Pac 12 has been the most impressive thus far.. I am glad in several of my brackets I am riding them to do very well in this tourney..

Anyone with half a brain knows that the mountain west isn't the best conference - but yet some computer can spit that out and they use that for such an important decision... just pretty dumb
