Is it tonight after the NIT games are done or do we already know when the Hawks will play if they beat Indiana State?

I still can't believe they didn't make us the 2 seed...over 15,000 expected tonight. I'm going to bet it will be the best attendance for an NIT game in this year's tournament...unless we end up at home with MSG on the line which could/should sell out. I'm thinking our crowd last year was the biggest of the 2012 tournament.

Not long ago, when the NIT was run by the NIT and not the NCAA, home games WERE determined by who the NIT thought could draw the most people. If that were still the case, Iowa and Robert Morris would have 3 home games.

Alas, that's not the case anymore.

GO HAWKS!!!

Umm, no to the bolded.

Robert Morris' arena only holds like 3056 people. They sold out for Kentucky but there was a lot more blue in that crown than I expected.

There will be more than 3056 people at the remaining NIT games I would guess.

However bluecrew is right in the sense in how it used to be done. Before the NCAA bought the NIT the goal was to sell tickets in order to make a profit but Robert Morris would have never been selected since they have a small arena, back in the day they may have used a different site altogether. I remember 1 year Iowa played a NIT game against DePaul in the Quad Cities since Carver was unavailable.

But now that the NCAA owns and runs it the priority (and money being made) is exposure and TV ratings. The ticket revenue is small potatoes compared to the exposure they got with all eyeballs watching Kentucky play in front of a packed house at Robert Morris on ESPN.

No doubt that the grumpy old coaches committee were not swayed by attendance potential....MD and Va did not draw flies at their games. Bill Walton was castigating Stanford fans for not showing up for their game vs Stephen Austin.

Really hope UMass gets upset by Stony Brook tonite,so Iowa gets a 2nd home game.
Would be nice if UVa, also lost,as they are 18-0 at home this year...Hawks will struggle there,I suspect.

Yeah, not to look to far ahead but playing at Virginia does not look good and if UMass wins I think them hosting a Big Ten school will draw well for them. They would have from tomorrow until Monday to sell tickets for that game. But if Iowa can come within a field goal of winning at Wisconsin and at Minnesota then they should be able to handle those environments.

St. John's and coach Steve Lavin won a road game last night on a buzzer beater. I like them to take care of Virginia if we handle our business tonight and in the 2nd round. St. John's won't be intimidated by Virginia and their handful of fans.

Good point, Virginia did draw less than 5000 last night. But that is for a game against Norfolk State, they typically draw 9-12K during the regular season.

I agree that they will draw more but even if they sell out it won't be as hostile as playing on the road in the Big East IMO. It will also be a lesser opponent for St. John's than the majority of their conference road games...and they will have the best player on the floor.

As much as I'd love to see more games at Carver this season, am I crazy for thinking opportunities to play meaningful games on the road and at a neutral site (MSG) is going to help this team prepare for future NCAA births.

Yah .. .. I wrote my post before realizing the size of their arena. But Iowa would definitely have more home games.

GO HAWKS!!!

I don't disagree with your rationale. My thinking is we get 2 (hopefully 3) at home and then play the neutral court games at MSG. That's adequate prep and more like an NCAA neutral floor setting IMO.

They would've given Tennessee a 1 seed as well, and Big Orange Country would've disappointed them. They had 20,000+ in the stands for Florida and Missouri, less than 5,000 last night.
