How big of a bubble

This steams from something said in another thread...

How big is the bubble? I remember when the bubble was just for the teams that had a 50/50 shot at making the tourney.

Now the bubble has 6 degrees of separation to Kevin Bacon. Really how many teams have to be on this bubble? Can't they just keep the bubble to the teams that have a 50/50 shot? What the heck is with all this first 4 to not get in, and the last 3 to be considered, but wait there is the 22 that might be in if they win their conference tourney.

It's been steaming this way for awhile.

I still think the first four out and next four is a good sized "bubble."

If someone needs to win teh conf. tournament to be in, then they are not on the bubble.

This has probably always been the size of the bubble. I would define it as "Any team that is in now, but could potentially be left out, and any team that could get in without winning their conference tournament." There is your bubble.
