Dauster: Conference record overblown when it comes to tournament profiles

This article is just stupid! So the nonconference games are now much more important than the league games?!? If they are such rabid believers in their precious RPI then why doesn't the league RPI matter? Bottom line is this thinking allows a lot of teams into the tournament that would be cellar dwellers in the Big Ten. If that's what they're after, then I think they should quit saying that they are looking for the best 68 teams.

Since when has the NCAA tournament been about getting the best teams in? Since when has the NCAA tournament been about crowning the truly best team in the country the national champ.

The answer is probably never.

Why? I'm not banking on getting in the tournament due to being 9-9 or 6th in Big 10....I am planning on getting in because our RPI will move high enough not to be an eye sore and that our KenPom/SaraginELO are in the top 40.

AGree you can't make a very strong argument for conference record with a road loss to Nebraska and losing almost every really close game. A win against Wichita State would've helped the ole resume.

I liked it from 1953 through 1978 when they had 22-32 teams......

I remember watching the Chicago Loyola Ramblers defeating Cincinnati for the National Championship.......

I also remember watching Texas Western beating an all white Kentucky team......

John Wooden's UCLA teams were legitimate champions.....

A tournament is perhaps the best way to determine a national championship despite the flaws. Every year there is bitter disapointment and sometimes deservedly so. Dickie V is always infuriated by some of the teams left out, let's hope he is not infuriated by the omission of the Hawkeyes this year.....

:)

Yeah, I don't go back far enough to remember a small field as I am 32 so it is been 64 teams as far as I can remember.

I think Iowa deserves to be in based on ken pom rankings which I prefer to any other ranking they have for college basketball.

I actually think Iowa is an interesting case study this year. The "stat heads" look at the ken pom, lets hope the committe looks at ken pom to fill the remaining field after auto bids are handed out.
