Pathetic and sad.

Pathetic and sad.

When I look at the National and Conference rankings, I agree but I look at the recruits and I like who they added. They addressed some key issues but only time will tell if this is a good class or not. However, right now the only thing that would have made this class better in my opinion on NSD is if they would have added a DE.

Re: DiNardo: Iowa class composite 12th in B1G; Maryland, Rutgers several notches abov

I agree with the DE issue. If they hold on to David Kenny (Kenney?) and Trevon Young keeps his nose clean, this class has a much better feel.

They need to make that a BIG priority in the next class.

Re: DiNardo: Iowa class composite 12th in B1G; Maryland, Rutgers several notches abov

If you look at how tight that spread is, I would say that you just don't know until some of these players start hitting the field. With Penn St. at 34 and us at 53, it will come down to player development.

Now when you compare the BIG to the to the top 3 Ohio St., Michigan and Nebraska, now that is a difference in talent that is hard to make up by just developing an extra guy or two.

I still think the biggest problem the program has had over the last 5-6 years is the attrition. You just can't keep losing players like that, especially if you are a developmental program.

The difference between No. 1 or No. 5 and No. 53, I understand. But between No. 34 and No. 53? No one can slice it that thin and really know.

Re: DiNardo: Iowa class composite 12th in B1G; Maryland, Rutgers several notches abov

I'm not too worried about this. The gap between PSU and Iowa is pretty small, and its filled with a lot of B1G teams. One recruit his way or that would have hanged he pecking order pretty well, IMO (Specifically Kenney and/or Hill). The class we got is pretty solid, and with some development, can make a huge impact.
What I see here is the potential for a larger gap to develop between top tier teams of the conference and the mid tier teams. However, only time will tell if that really happens or not.

As deanvogs said the attrition is what has hurt us as much as anything. We've had a ton the last 6 years.

Just like anyone, I wish we could get more 4 and 5's out of the classes, but i have little problem with this part of Kirks job over his tenure here. It's when we start losing guys that have been in the system for 2 and 3 years that it become a problem.

Trapper; not trying to start a flame here... But I think a lot of people are overestimating the number of 5*s out there and the thinking we're not attempting to get these types. As I stated in my post (and many have stated), this class is solid and was just a couple away from being big.
I think it can only provide optimism for the future. Which, if you ask me, is terrific after this last season.

Re: DiNardo: Iowa class composite 12th in B1G; Maryland, Rutgers several notches abov

My optimism tank for fb has been on empty for some time now.

You know if Iowa got Kenney AND Hill, their ranking would have been a lot better. Plus Kenney would have been a nice DE pick up, Iowa hasn't had 4* DE since Adrian Clayborn.

Yup, it was a terrible year for recruiting. That'll happen when you lose your top 2 guys. Things are already looking up for next year, no reason to dwell on the past IMO.

Dex, what are you considing things are looking up for next year, is it the coaching changes?

What things are you talking about when you say "things are already looking up for next year". Is it the coaching changes?

Was specifically talking recruiting wise.

Verbals from Pierschbacher and Scheel.

247 sports has Pierschbacher a 95 and Scheel a 90. They also have Lazzard a 90.

Good to be optimistic with those two, but lots of time between now and NSD 2014.

Well in recruiting, I would agree. I hope that others see Pierschbacher and Scheel and look at this as an upswing. I don't know if this team has another 4 or less win season, I think that we will see more 2* guys and less 3* or better next recruits.

It will be interesting to see what position Scheel ends up playing in college. If the QB this coming season is more mobile, which many are claiming that CJB is, then I think Scheel ends up playing QB and fighting for a spot. If not, then I think they end up giving him a shot like AJ Derby but end up pushing him to another position if he doesn't get a starting job.
