Who was the GOAT!

Or Woodbury, there is only a multiple page thread making fun of his shot blocking ability (or lack thereof).

I have been saying all a long that the poor shooting and play of Marble is what has been killing this team. He has not been that go to person we all thought he could be. Veteran guard play is what wins games in the Big Ten and Iowa does not have it. Clemmons and Gesell will get there but when Iowa needed a veteran guard to help nail down the win Marble threw it away.

There will be a 3-pt- o - meter next year as well as the block thread...not warranted, but folks are what they are.

He may be a good leader IDK. But as you watch him he doesnt seem very verble or engaged with his teamates. I could be all wrong. Dont meen to rag on the kid. Just a observation. and you are right he always says the right things in interviews. But so did DJK for the most part
What does this even mean? How can you watch a game and tell who is a leader? He seems to be a mature individual in answering some direct questions yesterday. I guess I don't know if that makes him a leader but he at least is smart enough to answer questions in a way that does not lead to any controversy.

I guess I don't know who is the "leader" on Iowa. Generally your best players are going to be your "leaders" as they are the ones who get put in the situations to come through most often.

Marble is a good player but not a great player. It is too bad he is catching flack for not taking a step from last year scoring wise but I don't know if it was wise to expect more. He also seems to have a foot injury which does not help things obviously.

I don't care that he talked about the NBA which I think he does not really have a shot at. I don't mind Fran talking about it either. You don't want a coach to say anything negative about a players NBA goals to the media. He can have a frank discussion behind closed doors with Devyn but no nee to do it through the media. Fran is a positive guy in the press when discussing players. Don't believe everything he says as 100% true and you will not be let down.

I see two types of leaders, vocal and those that let their play speak for itself. As mentioned I don't necessarily see Marble as the guy who will get in a teammates face and motivate. That said I see him as a player that uses his play to guide the team in the right direction. When that type of player is in a rut or playing hurt, his game is lacking that usual spark and that leadership may not show because the players realize that he's not the same guy. Not being 100% can greatly affect a players mentality which can and often does give off the visual signs that a player has seperated himself from his teammates or that his head/heart isn't in it. The fact is it may be illusion simply because his focus and mind set may be there, but physically he's not. Hopefully Devyn finds his way back and leads the team as he has in the past.

I will have to defer to you guys on this I hope you are right. Who do you guys think are the leaders on this team. I have heard E.May is a good locker room guy.

I have no idea who would be a leader on the team. I would guess you would hope Eric May is one of them as he is a senior and has been in the program the longest. I think most coaches would want the most talented players on the roster to be the hardest workers and lead by example. Some guys are not vocal leaders but you don't have to be vocal if you work hard and set good examples that way. So I would think you would want Marble and White to for sure be guys who are putting forth consistent effort and leading in that way.

Iowa has all the pieces except for that stud play maker. I think Fran has done a very nice job of building the roster and make the team more competative. I know Fran is trying his best to get that stud player in the 2014 class and beyond.

IMO, the goat of this game was Gesell. He allowed Minnesota's winning 3, he didn't even get off Iowa's second to last shot, and he missed Iowa's last shot. Maybe Fran ought to run a team play and have the open shooter get the look. No one Iowa player seems to be a great enough mismatch to consistantly get the job done.

Sidebar: the team's offense doesn't flow as smoothly when Gesell or Marble are at point.

I couldn't agree more that Marble hasn't played very well at the point or anywhere else for that matter this yr in the conference play. Gesell however I think has been up and down. He's played well at times. I thought he played better than what Clemmons did this game. I wish the two would have a great game at the same time but that seems to be too much to ask for. I think the one thing both of them should try and develop is the Mark Jackson tear drop floater. I think all pgs need to develop that shot cause once they penetrate into no mans land in the lane they get stuck. Being able to hit a 8-12 foot floater would be a really nice shot for any pg to have.

As some of you may have guessed, I was doing some fishing. I like Marble, along with the rest of the team. It's a learning process this team is going through and will be better for it. More pieces are needed and next years additions will help a lot.

Well typically when it is spelled GOAT (in all caps like that it means greatest of all time, like spank said). So based off of that it is michael jordan. GOAT was the nickname of a street baller earl manigault (sp?).

Now if you want a scapegoat then you won't find one as there were quite a few screw ups by the team and coach so the loss is on everyone.

That is stupid to say MG is the goat cuz minny ran a play where gesell's guy broke free as mg ran around a high screen. MG leading scorer, a few assists, some nice passes, perhaps leading rebound. A joke to say he was the goat.

MG was fouled at the 2:40 mark driving for the layup and should have had 2 FTs there.

If anything Marble shoving a one handed, left handed pass out of bounds with 50 seconds to go was a terrible turnover and he wuold be the goat.

I dont believe in goats in a 40 minute game of college basketball or any Bball.

All the hawks were bad at the free throw line - team loss.

All the hawks missed chances at rebounds - team loss.

If Matt Gatens was on this team, we could make the Sweet 16.

Quite probably we would only have 4 losses. wow. Even a healthy Bryce Cartwright would be a huge dividend as he could control the last 5 minutes of a game and help everyone.

Free throws were la basura as usual. The 2 inbounds plays didn't help..the one w. woodbury jumpin around like a giant chicken and the last 3 by Hollins. Josh still shootin' hellz bricks and aaron white the tip master when a nice rebound would suffice. #Teamloss.

Thats more than 140 characters bro

First of all, drop the Goat stuff

Next, this season is reminding me of 94-95 a bit. I swear Woolridge missed three straight game winners as Iowa lost three straight Big Ten games by one point.

Stuff happens. Doesn't mean we have to like it but some are acting like this is the first time a team has struggled closing out games.

Yet you would probably be the first one posting "what an awesome tip slam" if White would have pulled it off? Go back to sleep please. 19 posts from you is quite enough.

Since no Iowa player seems to be able to deliver in crunch time right now, why does Fran seem to always call the isolation play where 4 guys watch one guy try to win the game? I guess I tend to repeat myself, here.
