Apathy is once again creeping in.
Losses to highly rated Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Michigan State are better than losing to Central Michigan, Indiana, and Purdue in football. Iowa Basketball will be fine. Let the kids grow up a little.
It's not apathy when people are angry. Apathy is when people don't give a crap to even comment.
No worries here... I have seen this before. It's painful to endure and makes me crazy but the favorable schedule is only 1 game away...after the road game at WI. The young guys are learning what has to happen at the end of a game...have to put teams away, have to make FTs, can't throw the ball away, etc. We will get our share of these next year...maybe some yet this year.
Check my post count on the BB boards after all these losses. I had maybe one meltdown due to bad officiating and coaching, the rest I have been very "meh." When a guy like me loses my will to bring up how Alford's teams were never this bad, that sir, is the definition of apathy.
Im patient with the BB program, but if we aren't in the tourney next year it will be a different story.
Its funny how some think Kirk gets the rest of his life to turn that program around, yet the basketball team is lost cause and the season isnt over.
Far from apathy IMO. People actually care and know when Iowa plays, which is a stark contrast to the Lickliter era. Most fans recognize the big ten is loaded, Iowa is young etc. and like what they see from Woodbury, Gesell, White, Basabe and others. I remember the Monday night call in shows under Lickliter when nobody called and they had lines wide open all night. Last night there were steady calls until the last 10-15 minutes from all over the state and a couple out of state. Getting on a winning streak in the second half to create the possibility of an NCAA bid would no doubt help.
Apathetic and the life being sucked out of the fanbase, no. Frustrated, yes. It's frustrating as a fan that the team should have won the MSU, Minny, and Purdue games. It's frustrating that they had a good chance to beat Indiana at home. It's frustrating that they played so poorly at the beginning of the OSU game. It's frustrating that they almost lost the Wisconsin game. It's frustrating watching this team come so close yet not being able to close the game out, or watching the stretches where they play poorly.
If the frustration is is mounting with the fanbase ya gotta think it is mounting with the players also.
I think the reason the fan base is so frustrated is because after a poor football season a lot of us invested a ton of our energy into our basketball program to get that winning feeling back. Combo that between the way we've been losing and it's been pretty painful. Maybe we overestimated some of our talent we have this year but everyone's been looking for something to get excited about again.
