I can literally feel the life being sucked out of the fanbase

Losses to highly rated Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Michigan State are better than losing to Central Michigan, Indiana, and Purdue in football. Iowa Basketball will be fine. Let the kids grow up a little.

It's not apathy when people are angry. Apathy is when people don't give a crap to even comment.

Check my post count on the BB boards after all these losses. I had maybe one meltdown due to bad officiating and coaching, the rest I have been very "meh." When a guy like me loses my will to bring up how Alford's teams were never this bad, that sir, is the definition of apathy.

No worries here... I have seen this before. It's painful to endure and makes me crazy but the favorable schedule is only 1 game away...after the road game at WI. The young guys are learning what has to happen at the end of a game...have to put teams away, have to make FTs, can't throw the ball away, etc. We will get our share of these next year...maybe some yet this year.

Good points.

As usual OK4P's basketball trolling falls far below the high standards he has established for himself with his football posts.

Im patient with the BB program, but if we aren't in the tourney next year it will be a different story.

I agree, next year the freshmen turn into sophomores and they add in Uthoff & Jok while only losing May. I will not be happy to see Iowa hanging around at the bottom of the B1G standings next season.

I think many BB fans have forgotten what it takes (and looks like) getting a young and talented team to mature. Mostly, it takes time; also, energy, drive, commitment and dedication. I see all of these things with this team and staff. I haven't seen the team quit in any game.

Consider 3 freshman starters for 3/4 of the season and a 14-8 / 3-6 record. They are close. If they had shot better in certain games, they would have 4 or 5 more wins. But, young teams can go through bad shooting nigths.

Its funny how some think Kirk gets the rest of his life to turn that program around, yet the basketball team is lost cause and the season isnt over.

Good point. Last year and this year I am really enjoying watching the hawks play. Hardly watched lick ball after his first year. Was down on alford his last year because he was such a poor in-game coach and we know how he drove off good players.

AS they say it is appointment TV. We have exciting young players and they are young.

The second half of the Northwestern game was one of the best displays by the hawks in a long time. And they have played well in some tough losses.

A much more exciting brand of bball, pushing it when they get the chance, hustling and playing tough defense, and they look like they enjoy playing the game with each other.

Too bad RDM is having an off B1G season.

CUN3 is the reigning NEW COMMITTEE Basketball poster of the year, so if he says it's apathy, my friends, there is apathy.

Also, he is in the lead for the 2013 award on the strength of thread tags alone.

Far from apathy IMO. People actually care and know when Iowa plays, which is a stark contrast to the Lickliter era. Most fans recognize the big ten is loaded, Iowa is young etc. and like what they see from Woodbury, Gesell, White, Basabe and others. I remember the Monday night call in shows under Lickliter when nobody called and they had lines wide open all night. Last night there were steady calls until the last 10-15 minutes from all over the state and a couple out of state. Getting on a winning streak in the second half to create the possibility of an NCAA bid would no doubt help.

Wow! Congrats on your first quality post.

I'm going to be apathetic towards our game with Wisconsin. I'm just going to assume we'll be up, like, 4 with 3:00 minutes left and we'll lose by 3.

Apathy is actually fading for me in basketball. In my adult life 80% of my hawkeye enthusiasm has been directed towards football. I will admit I am extremely apathetic towards Iowa football. In fact I am almost completely disinterested in Iowa Football. 10 years ago I would have laughed at the idea. My eldest son is wrestling and turns out is pretty damn good at it. My focus and interested has shifted to wrestling..which is weird. Any interest in Hawkeye sports that I have right now is focussed on enjoying a young basketball team (even though they lose the close ones) and any time a hawkeye wrestler steps on the mat.

Apathetic and the life being sucked out of the fanbase, no. Frustrated, yes. It's frustrating as a fan that the team should have won the MSU, Minny, and Purdue games. It's frustrating that they had a good chance to beat Indiana at home. It's frustrating that they played so poorly at the beginning of the OSU game. It's frustrating that they almost lost the Wisconsin game. It's frustrating watching this team come so close yet not being able to close the game out, or watching the stretches where they play poorly.

If the frustration is is mounting with the fanbase ya gotta think it is mounting with the players also.

I think the reason the fan base is so frustrated is because after a poor football season a lot of us invested a ton of our energy into our basketball program to get that winning feeling back. Combo that between the way we've been losing and it's been pretty painful. Maybe we overestimated some of our talent we have this year but everyone's been looking for something to get excited about again.
