How long do you stick with Oglesby?

Anyone notice that when JO shoots the ball seems to spin sideways? Maybe it is just me but that is the way it looks to me.

How many times are we going to go over this? Josh is going to get his minutes. Anyone saying he's not a good defender should watch the games sometime. He has been solid on D, rarely if ever allows his man by. He has great vision and he's a good passer. Personally I feel that he's getting the right amount of minutes. If his shot starts to fall then keep him out there. He isn't hurting this team.

So that's your requirement for PT? Not hurting the team?

Not to pick on you, I hear what you are saying. This team is struggling now, (like all young teams do) we need people who will contribute. I don't think JO does right now.

His job is to hit threes, and he hasn't been doing that very well, I would start reducing his minutes now. Not sure by how much but hit the shots or less time. Gotta produce. He's had plenty of opportunity

I wonder how long you continue to give him minutes when he hasn't shown the ability to get out of this slump?

Yesterday I watched a video of the three-point contest in which Printy beat JO 20-11, and thus I've given up on his slump. He's just not good. The video is clear evidence that he's not the sniper everyone thought he would be. He is very imprecise and his release is really slow.

So simply because my opinion is different than yours' means that I need to try watching the games sometime? Please pal, I've watched every single game that has been on television. I'm not saying he's bad at defense, I'm just saying he isn't the best defender when compared to other guys that could be on the court. In MY opinion, he's almost always smaller than his counterpart, often times he isn't as fast, and he certainly doesn't have the physicality/strength to match up with a lot of the guys he's expected to guard.

He's in the game to make shots, and he isn't doing it. He's supposed to be a sharpshooter, and I think he's airballed more 3's than anyone else on the team. He is hurting the team by being on the court and not living up to his role.

Congratulations this is the first thread about Oglesby after a win...nice job.

Comical, simply comical.

Glad I could make you laugh. What does the win have to do with this topic? Not to mention it was a win against the worst team in the Big 10. He was 1-5 last night with a turnover. It isn't like he did anything to change the subject of this thread.

Your opinion can be whatever, you just said that you don't think he's bad on D. I wouldn't be talking about you. All year some have said that he's a bad defender. If you watch him, he always keeps his man in front of him, rarely makes defensive mistakes if any. He is supposed to be a sharpshooter and he needs to start hitting shots, but I think there's more to his game than just his shot.

Usually there are five threads started on Josh after every loss because he is the only guy on the team that can't shoot and the reason why Iowa lost.

Find it ignorant to focus on one player this much who has not had a major role or minutes each year on campus and is a sophomore.

Josh Oglesby: The new lightning rod of HN negativity

Woodbury is not far behind.

But our "NBA player" always seems to get a pass.

Never said it was a requirement. As I've said, I feel he brings more than just his shot.

Can't compare the two until a mod starts a thread bashing JO on a game by game basis.

Ignorance, even from a mod, simply can't be helped...doesn't seem to be a whole lot on that bandwagon...16 pages with almost half a page per post is weak. After 21 games.

I thought Josh looked a lot better last night. I agreed with Fran in the postgame: I thought every one of the shots he put up was going in. He wasn't putting up bricks; his misses were all in and out, IIRC. And he was actually looking for his shot, even after he missed the first one. That was as encouraging as anything else to me.

They weren't in and out. 1 of his was a huge brick and the other that I can remember was just a miss. What do you expect Fran to say? He's backed the kid since day one and pumped sunshine up the fanbase ***** about how good a shooter this kid is. He can't back off the talk now. Now when Josh misses, Fran needs to say, "he makes em in practice," or "they were all great shots that barely missed."

Ignorance means you are suggesting that I am uninformed.... What exactly have I said that suggests I am uninformed? Is Josh's role not to come in and make shots? Is he not fulfilling his role?

I believe everything I have said is fact. It's not ignorance when you're dealing with something that is black and white. He isn't performing as well as he or any of us would like him to. Ultimately a player is judged off of performance during a game, not during practice. Josh's performance during games has been so poor this season that I believe it's time to consider giving those minutes to someone else who can effect the game in more ways than just one.

As a previous poster said... Eric May brings more strength, hustle, and athleticism to the court than Ogelsby does. May is shooting .267 from 3 pt land and Oglesby is barely above him at .273. The difference in their 3 pt percentage is so small that I believe given the way Oglesby has performed, or underperformed, that May would be a solid candidate for those minutes.

Just because your username is "sportstalent" doesn't mean you can call people ignorant simply because you find it bad taste for me to bring this up the night after a big victory against lowly Penn State. I started off the entire thread by stating that it is not my intent to bash the kid. I'm simply talking basketball. It could be my brother in his shoes and I'd say the same thing.
