what year do you think jok becomes a starter at iowa?

Option 1 - frosh: this would mean 1 of 3 things...1) he is much better than any of us thought he would be (best thing ever if it is the reason). Or 2) we aren't as good as we originally thought we would be in his 1st yr. Or 3) an injury happened forcing him to start.

Option 2: soph - this is where I am leaning. I think he will take over the 2 spot and move mg back to being a primary pg. And turning clemmons into the best 6 man in the b1g. This isn't a fault of clemmons just that I believe jok will be really good and see uthoff starting at the 3 in this season.

Option 3: junior - this is probably the second most likely version. This would happen if he can't overtake the 2 spot by his soph yr and then becomes the starting 3 moving uthoff to the 4 when white is gone. I don't think this happens because I think we will have better options at the 4 than uthoff as I believe he is a better fit at the 3.

Option 4: senior - I think this is very unlikely as he brings elements to this team that are missing. This would happen if he can't overtake the 2 spot his soph yr or the 3 spot his jr yr.

Option 5: never - I see this happening only if he were to reinjure his knee. And I don't think that will happen.

I think jok could be the best recruit that fran brings to iowa in his tenure (not so far but total)...he has that kind of talent. It is just a matter of time until we see it.

Health, shooting and defense will dictate when he starts. I say it really doesn't matter if he starts or not but how many minutes he gets and will he be worth those minutes.

i just hope we get a kid that can reliably hit the 3 when needed. whether off the bench or not doesn't matter to me. but, i'll guess he gets some decent minutes next year (10-15) and then starts the year after at that 3 spot. why not have Sapp, Gesell, and Jok out there? The trashman should be NBA ready by then, with Woody (hopefully) a beast at that time.

I think he doesn't start til Marble gradiates.

I think the starting lineup next year will be very close to this year, with Basabe, Jok, Uthoff, and McCabe of the bench.

2014 will be Clemmons, Gesell, Jok, White, and Woody.

That seems like a good line up to me! Atta boy Boat!

Agree with you some but I think clemmons becomes the 6th man in 2014 (jok's soph yr) and jok is the 2 and uthoff the 3. I could see your lineup too though.

i bet if you look back three years there is an identical thread about basabe and how long it will take for him to become a star.

The difference is that when basabe came in iowa didn't have a lot of talent. So we didn't realize he wasn't great but just a really solid role player. If jok can come in and take a starting spot it will really mean he is good because we really have some talent he would have to overtake.

If Jok demonstrates he can run the floor, create space, take good shots and score, would not be surprised if he starts 3-4 games into next year's conference schedule. Otherwise, after Marble graduates.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I want to see how his high school game translates to the B1G. Not always a smooth transition.

I agree with this...don't see getting Gesell or Clemmons out of the starting line-up their junior year when both start and show great promise as true freshmen. Solid guard play wins championships.

Can't believe Fran got him to come to Iowa...even with that one other offer he had from Drake. If he's the best recruit Fran brings in we're in serious trouble

"We" aren't in trouble, Iowa basketball might but that is fine with you since you are just a troll.

I think 2014 will be too soon for Jok, although I see Uthoff contributing after sitting out this year. He should be ready to get on the court and tear **** up.

I agree it is hard to see clemmons out of the starting lineup as a junior. I don't expect gesell to be out of it. But how many people projected basabe to be coming off the bench as a junior? During his freshman season the answer would be none. I think clemmons would bring a lot off the bench when you look at what that team will have. I wouldn't be mad if he was starting or was the 6th man because I think either way he will be fine. One of the biggest reasons I think this could happen (clemmons on the bench) is because of the talent of uthoff and jok and the ceiling of gesell as a 2 guard. Mg is solid but I don't think he is great as a 2...I think he has a higher ceiling as a pg. And I think the main reason he is at the 2 this yr is because of necessity. During his jr yr he won't have to be a primary 2.

I really like Jok. I have seen him play several times at Valley. He has had issues with injuries, but he has a huge upside. I know you gave 5 options, but here are my thoughts.

I think he will be much better than people realize his freshman year. There will be some growing pains (and I don't think he will be all BIG freshman good) but more than decent. Uthoff and Jok will work well together.

I see a breakout year for Jok in his sophmore year when Marble is gone. He will have had more time in the system and another year removed from some of his injuries from high school. I think Uthoff and Jok will average 12-14 ppg and 6/7 rebounds each for the 2014 season.

These are high expectations, but I think Jok and Uthoff have the talent for that to happen.

If he even comes close to regaining the athleticism he had before the injuries, there will be a lot of schools kicking themselves for not sticking with him through it all.

Granted, that's a gamble. But if Jok ends up being the best recruit of Fran's tenure here, you can rest assured he was a winning lotto ticket.

Very well said, I just think some people tend to forget it's a big IF and not a guarantee. You're 100% correct though.

Never got the infatuation with "starting."

Obviously who finishes the game is more important. But every player I have ever dealt with from playing and coaching wants to start. You look at the starters as typically being your best players at each position. So my sense is when he starts he is the best 2 or 3 on the team. I think that will happen his soph yr.
