This Must Be a Good Team

To play that horrible and have the lead at the end with a chance to win on the road is amazing. If you would have showed me iowas stats before the game I would have thought they lost by 20. Just think how good this team could be.

Finally and good for you... a very, very good observation.

This is true, Iowa is a good team, just can't quite finish. Iowa forgets how they got there and takes a whole different life of their own.

Iowa lacks and offensive identity, their identity is not dribble drive and shoot 3's, it is screening and mid-range, I wish they would focus more on that.

Iowa rebounded very poorly today and that is something they have been doing well.

There is no way to sugar coat it, they played like crap. I give them credit, they got after it defensively but as horrible they looked offensively they should have been blown out.

It's also a sign of how far they still have to go. I want to believe I really do, but that's a game in which there is no excuse. They came out and shot horribly on th road and were able to remain in the game based on their defense and the fact that Purdue wasn't making the shots. Too many times did they Iowa play 30 great seconds of defense only to give up a running floater to Johnson that they should have known was coming. I absolutely agree with you based on what the box score says, but at the same time a "good" team finishes that game out and gets the win on the road.

IMO what we showed today was a lack of leadership. White and Marble were for the most part, nonexistent the majority of the game. Our leaders need to step up and as a team we need to attack the rim rather than forcing jumpers from the outside. If they attack the rim more often, I don't think they start the game making 5 of their first 30+ fieldgoals. While I think this team is definitely on there way, I still think they have long ways to go and until the they become more battle tested and experienced they will continue to struggle on the road.

But kicker, it is a good sign that the guy to step up offensively was the true freshman. Our "NBA player" was no where to be found when they needed him the most.

We all know that Marble has a long way to go to get drafted. I understand that he struggled mightily yesterday but the fact is White has to be that number 2 guy, and he was as lost a Marble. IMO Gesell became that guy yesterday, quite frankly because he was one of the few on the court that actually wanted the ball and did something with it when he had it.

That and the fact that Purdue really isn't that great of a team.

Agree on Gesell, but then he didn't get the ball when he came back in the game, how many shots did he get after the 3:33 mark...quite honestly, I don't remember one. It makes total sense because Iowa has a guy that is capable of taking over games at the end...(lots of sarcasm)

Personally, I am happy they are fighting back and that is a good sign for the future because of how young this team really is. However, we won't know for sure how good these players are, how good of a coach Fran really is or how good this team can be until they get more experience under their belts, shake off the bad shooting slumps and win these types of games.

Too young, too streaky shooting, I am sure things will get better just depends on how long it takes.

Iowa had no reason being in that game.
Somehow they were, mainly because PU played slower than expected and had so many missed opportunities.

At one point Iowa was shooting just above 13% from the field. Truly incredible stat.

Need to make FTs down the stretch. Iowa didn't. Again.

If we were a decent shooting team, we'd be in contention for a Big Ten championship. We have 4 single digit losses where we shot in the low 30's, 3 of those against ranked teams. This may be one of the most frustrating teams that I've watched in my life.
