Having crossed the halfway point, I figure it is time for everyone to adjust their predictions.
At the beginning of the year I expected (hoped for) a record of 13-3 (1-2) at this point and finishing at 22-9 overall. My new expectations are a sweep of PSU, Purdue, and Neb, split of Wisconsin and NW, and stealing a home game between Minnesota or Illinois(I hope). That would end the year at 20-11 (9-9). I don't think they get in at that point and we look for a run at the NIT.

I think this team will start to click really well down the stretch, unfortunately they have dug their tournament hole to deep.

Before the year started I still thought this team was 1 year away from the NCAA Tournament. After the first 3 Big 10 games, 2 of the losses are absolutely gut wrenching losses and ones that Iowa had well within their grasp and they let both teams off the hook, at home nonetheless. Would have been 2 very solid resume wins. When you get opportunities like Iowa just had, you have to seize those moments if you are expecting to play in the NCAA Tournament. If they can get themselves off the canvas after that Michigan State game, they can do some good things. The unforced turnovers and free throw shooting has to improve drastically for Iowa to make any run. I hope for 9-9, but Im not sure anymore.

If we continue to have major issues with the most basic of basketball fundamentals (shooting) it is going to be really hard for us to win many games.

My expectations for this team are almost exactly the same now as they were when the season started. I predicted 20-14 after the Big Ten Tournament, with a NCAA nod because we'd win 6 or 7 of our last 8 and knock off the 1 or 2 seed in the BTT.

Strangely, after the last three games, losing by three to the number 5 and 22 ranked teams in the country, even while getting shellacked by Michigan, I'm convinced that Iowa is one of the best 64- or 68 or whatever, teams in the country.

Unfortunately I am getting skeptical that Iowa puts a resume together that proves it. I can see a lot of close losses on the schedule. And you can't almost win your way to the tournament.

I do think Iowa is going to be damn tough next year though.

I had them 12-4 at this point; 11-2 non conf and 1-2 in league, losing to Indiana and Mich and beating MSU. I don't think I'd adjust anything. Had them finishing 9-9 in league and think that is still possible. I had them losing at NW so that could flip.

I had them at:
Non-Con: 10-3
Conf: 9-9
Overall: 19-12
Tournament: NIT
I stand by it. I REGRET NOTHING!!!!!!!

No adjustment needed, still think 9-9 or 10-8 in conference, we've lost to three ranked teams, two of them by narrow margins and one of them without our best player.

20 plus wins... surprise the dissers in both B!G TEN tourney and NCAA MARCH MADNESS.

The best is yet to come.

IOWA is BACK
