Jon, good write up, but I still disagree that Indiana is better than Michigan. I think Michigan can match up to any team in the Country and has the best PG in College Basketball.

Water under the bridge. Maybe this is an indicator as to how "back" Iowa is. Basketball loss is already old news two hours after the game is over. Football losses still linger for days...

Pretty well summed up Jon - It was their for the taking, but it's not that Indiana gave it to us quite either.

I agree with this. A basketball loss, given the number of games you will play, is not a huge deal. Plus, there is one, big bowl game in hoops, and that is the NCAA tourney. You can't compare the two sports at all.

It was a disappointing game to lose but there is no question Iowa has the underclassmen to compete in the B10 for the next several years. Gesell was outstanding for a freshman yesterday, and I was just as impressed with Woodbury. Last year we got crushed inside against any team with size, that won't be the case this year when Woody can avoid foul trouble. We're still lacking offensive weapons and when Marble is struggling and we can't get fast break points it becomes very hard for this team to score. Hopefully next year Jok and Uthoff can provide additional firepower.
And nothing against but McCabe and Ogelsby but I don't think this team is ever going to challenge for a top tier B10 finish when those two are integral parts of the rotation. But like I said in another thread, I think next year there will be a solid 8 man rotation and there's a very good chance those two will be on the outside looking in, which is a great sign for where the program is headed.

Indiana showed they are over rated until they get better bench coaching.

The game was there for the taking. It was a chance for this program to make a national statement it desperately needs. They didn't get it done. Iowa has to start winning these games when the spotlight is so bright. Indiana was there for the taking and Iowa let them off the hook. They played hard, but dammit they have to understand situations. The Oglesby pass? Good grief. Watching oladipo grab that huge offensive board? Iowa has to start making these plays.

Better bench coaching is overrated for teams who can recruit at their level.

I think it's pretty clear that Iowa has made great strides since the Mexico trip. This is a game that they'll learn from. We start three freshmen and a sophomore, are 11-3, shot 33% and still almost beat the preseason consensus #1 team in the land.
Yet some are pretty pissy about this loss. I'm actually encouraged. Had you spilled those stats prior to the game, I would have said Iowa loses by 25.
I suppose there are two ways to look at this game. Get stuck in 'what might have been' mode, or learn from it and apply lessons learned against Michigan. I hope the team takes the latter approach. It's far more productive.

Until they play Michigan or other teams with comparable talent. Indiana poorly executed switching from man to zone and gave up a couple very easy baskets to Iowa in the process.

Yeah I am on with yesterday's game. They competed, they got good looks throughout the game. A couple shots here and there and they get the win. One more player and we get the win. We're ok....

Agreed, I came away from this game reassured of Iowas ability to compete in the BIG and thinking their chances for an NCAA tournament invite are good given the way the schedule breaks down.
The only thing that worries me is the exceptionally poor shooting, but again the fact that they could compete the whole way with a top five team while shooting so bad is also somewhat encouraging.
