Just How Talented is this year's Iowa Hoops Roster??

It is impressive that Aaron White can finish where he potentially can.

All that from a guy who was lightly recruited, but plays with passion and energy which can make up for some holes in a player's game. If Aaron can work on his mid to long range game, he could finish higher than projected on the scoring list. I am hoping that he can continue to work in space off the dribble when the BIG comes around.

Don't forget the MillerSix pack of 1970 with three in the 1000 point club plus Kunnert as as freshman before they were eligible.

#24 John Johnson 1172
#25 Chad Calabria 1168
#32. Fred Brown 1091
Ben McGilmer
Glenn Vidnovic
Dick Jensen

#26. Kunnert 1145 (freshman)

Hard to imagine a team with more depth of talent than 1987 but this one probably had more cream at the top. I believe only one of those 1970 team 1000 pt guys played at Iowa for 4 years. Plus, the NBA careers were better among this group than 1987. Only BJ stuck for any length of time from that team.

Also, a question, in how you figure where Horton is at, you mention that he finished 14th on the list and is still there, but you earlier mention that Haluska, Horner and Brunner are all ahead of him, so he finished higher than 14th originally, right?

BTW, nice article.

I took out all of the guys who are currently ahead of Horton who came after Horton had graduated to deduce where Horton was on Iowa's all time list at the time he was done at Iowa, which was 1989.

This was the best IOwa team I ever saw, JJ & Fred did it in two years MiGilmer wasnt there 4 years either. Think he came in after spending time in the service. Also think the stick missed some time with Academics. Does anyone know the name of the 6-9 kid that came in with that class but transfered to Creighten after Jensen won the center job ?

You are setting the thousand point mark as some sort of marker. Just because a player doesn't make that mark doesn't mean he is not at that level of play. Injuries and a deep bench can cut out a lot of players from reaching that level. If some of these same players played on a team with less depth they very well may well exceed that mark of a thousand points in their careers.

The potential of this team going into next season (barring injuries) could end up being one of the best to wear an Iowa uniform. One other factor that has got to be given consideration is the level of competition in the conference in any given year. As of late I am not sure it has been much better than it is now in the BIG.

Gamble and Louhous.

I like lists and all, but, the era's are so different (freshman eligibility, 3-point shot, expanded schedules, shot clock, expanded tourney's), it's hard/unfair to compare today with the 80s with the 70s.

IMO, you could easily add 25-33% to the totals of the BB players from the 70s considering the above-mentioned changes.

(Not unlike trying to compare 1000 yard (season) rushers/3000 yard (season) passers from today's NFL game vs the 70s or even 80s. Same could be said of comparing career rushing/passing yards...doesn't mean anything as the NFL seasons are now longer with expanded playoffs).
