An Iowa commit is having a scintillating senior year, the Hawks have offered a Missouri defensive tackle and keep an eye on the Badger coaching search.

Saw a piece about Riley a couple of months ago. Pretty sure he is a 2nd generation coach (i think at OSU). rides his bike to work. Seems like he's pretty settled in there.

Some badger fans saying barry and Riley are buds and Barry is just doing this to help Riley financially at OSU. Lol. No you don't

I hope Iowa gets it rolling again. I totally agree about the facilities and money available to pay a coach, but as you mentioned, Wisky has some advantages (some you listed include 6 mil in Wisky vs. maybe 3.5mil in Iowa, and not having to compete against Wiksy St).

I would add that Madison is generally considered a "destination town" for many. It's a good looking city, with a lot to do for a metro area of less than $500K. It typically ranks near the top nationally in terms of educated populace, unemployment, outdoor opportunities, and various career opportunities.

Additionally, Madison is 150 miles from Chicago, and even less distance from some of the Burbs. Iowa goes against Wisky for Chicago and Milwaukee kids.

Do they think the Oregon State AD is stupid? I imagine he would be able to spot that bluff a mile away.

The Collins kid out of Center is an animal. Came on strong at the end of the season and couldn't be stopped. Led his team to a couple of big upsets in the playoffs. Won the award for best defensive small school player in Kansas City(classes 1-4). Iowa coming on late. I have read he is leaning towards Mizzou.

I think Iowa City and the Iowa FB program is plenty sexy to attract top recruits. Top coaches is another story, but if you get into college coaching, small town life is what you are signing up for. And as far as cities of under 100K in the B1G, I'd put Iowa City up against any of them.

I think the allure of Madison is that a lot of top kids seem to want to be big fish in big ponds and Madison feels like a city and is growing rapidly.

There is a difference in a reactionary coaching search (Wisconson and any program/school where the coach leaves on their own and does not provide notice to the program/school) and a proactive search (where the program/school lets the coach go/fires the coach).

Do I want KF gone? If he doesn't bring things into the 21st century of modern college football; yes. If he does; no. There is something to be said for continuity with a coaching staff (head coach in particular). But continuity at the cost of success is not worth it.

There have been quite a few schools (with more prestige than Iowa) that have struggled mightily on "proactive" searches.

Right. And; therefore, that must happen at Iowa.
Maybe others have, but I have not suggested that it "must" happen that way at Iowa. And I kind of agree with the sentiment of you won't know unless you try. But I do believe that Iowa will have an extremely difficult challenge when they replace KF (recruiting challenges, meddlesome academia, perception, finanical issues,...)

I have a Question on Wisconsin. how attractive will they be if they lose their 3rd RB in a row, escpecially as the announcers will bring it up that they didn't deserve to be there. because of OSU and PSU not being elegible?

What financial issues? And what perception? Don't all colleges have to deal with academia? And to say you can't recruit to Iowa..... please. Iowa is a place that the right coach could bring in top 25 classes regularily.

Top 25 regularly? Hmmm. Here is a minimum list of schools with *significant* inherent recruiting advantages over Iowa due to geography, championship history or both:

USC
UCLA
Washington
Oregon
Texas
Texas A&M
Oklahoma
LSU
Auburn
Alabama
Georgia
Florida
Florida State
Miami
South Carolina
Clemson
Penn State
Michigan
Ohio State
Notre Dame

That's a minimum. There are certainly more who enjoy higher in-state talent that could be added like MSU, Wisconsin, more SEC & Texas schools... But that's 20 schools right there with a significant advantage. Maybe 2-3 of those have the occasional down year, like Washington's #66 in 2009. Even if Iowa had an outstanding recruiter, which Kirk unfortunately is not, "regular Top 30" might be our ceiling.
