A shut out.
I have to say, after my recent rant about how the rules and game have evolved into high scores.
How defense is actually a second thought and the odds are stacked against them and towards high scores.
A shut out is nice to see. It's a testament to the coaches and players.
Hold PSU to under 14 and the rest of the country will know what we already know. Iowa's D is the real deal. They came to play and aren't taking prisoners.

Just had to give a kudos. That's all.

Chances are, Penn State is going to get some big plays against our very young defensive back seven. I don't know how consistent they will be at it. I also think their defense is fairly porous. Iowa is going to be able to move the ball on them.

As you mentioned with offenses how they are it makes what Iowa's done all that much more impressive. I don't know about you all but going into that MD game I was a tad nervous that they'd be able to gash us with their running game some. Once I found out it was windy and that they'd be totally one dimensional I wasn't as nervous but still thought they'd give us a challenge. They have like 2 or 3 guys averaging like 6 or more yards a pop or something like that. To be doing that for an average at this point in the season is no joke I didn't think.

I think the first team to 20 will win this week. (that is almost my default # with Iowa) But I truly think that with this one. If our D can keep them under that our O can put that up on just about anyone with how we've looked lately.

I think if you hold teams under 20pts anymore, it can be viewed as a good game by the defense. Times have changed.

Iowa's total defense is ranked 5th in the nation last time I checked. I couldn't even locate Penn St. on the first page and I think it went something like 50 teams to a page.

Secondary to this and Iowa having such a great D line, I think Iowa has a great shot this game.

That plays right into us. Dominant top but get the score up so big plays (if they make any) don't hurt us.
I think our DL and backers are going to have a monster game.

This game is going to be a wild one again because of the weather. ----> 44 degrees and heavy rain forecast for kickoff.

It'd be pretty tough to call a score for this one and I think at least some of both team's metrice are going out the window.

All I know is that it sucks to be whoever is sittng in the stands for those 3 hours. I can handle cold, heat, sun, wind, but I HATE being sitting in the rain being wet. Add the cold, and peace out folks.

Amen to all that. My 65 inch tv and couch with fridge and bathroom only a few steps away is extremely enticing when it gets like that out. Like you I don't mind heat at all. Or just plain cold. But cold mixed with wind and rain/sleet even. That just sucks...

When the weather is like that is when stupid turnovers and special teams factor in and ya just never know what crazy crap can happen. Could be in our favor or not time will tell.

Don't forget about what those people out there do in the showers. The rain might trigger some not so cool behavior.

31-10 Iowa

I thought about going out to this one. Happy I can watch it at a bar instead.

PSU is sitting at 63 in defensive yards allowed, Iowa is at 5. Penn State has given up 7 more points per game than Iowa, with Iowa at 99 total points and Pedos with 154. Iowa has allowed almost 1000 fewer yard than Penn State. Iowa’s put up some of their most dominant performances on the road. Possibly the best stat has Iowa at number 3 in yards per game, while Penn State sits at number 71. I’m hoping that the weather favors Iowa, we’re better in the trenches. Penn State sits around 60-70 in nearly every defensive statististc, while Iowa’s worst is their 19th ranked pass yards allowed per game.

The pass yds allowed stat often gets skewed when a team has such a dominant run stop game. Teams have to try something.

Let's see, last time Iowa had a great dominant D line was 2009-10 and in '09 Binns, Clayborne, Klug and Ballard just abused the PSU Off line once the first two drives were over.

Penn St. receivers have had serious issues with a case of the dropsies. A wet, cold game does them no favors. That makes PSU one-dimensional. The Nits will be forced to run and dink and dunk in pass game. This plays into Iowa’s defensive scheme. Defensively, Penn St. d-line has been giving up yardage in the run game. Especially up the middle. This feels like a good game for Young and Sargeant to bring some physical play inside. It may be close early in the game, but Iowa’s physical line play will wear them down in the second half. Iowa’s TE’s will dominate against their LB’s. This can be a game similar to Maryland at worst or Indiana at best. I predict Iowa puts up 40+ pts. on PSU.
