Zen and the art of being a Hawkeye Fan

I've decided to let go of expecting that this team will gash on the ground and blow out other teams. It hasn't happened yet.

This team will flash but they are inconsistent

On offense, you can count on Akrum, Esley and Vandenburg. And that's It. Stanely flashes but he is inconsistent. The OLine is certainly a work in progress. Noha, flashes but he too is inconsistent. The other WR are inconsistent. This adds up to a team that flashes but also runs bad routes, forgets to look for the ball, misses blocks, over throws receivers, fumbles the ball. That is what it is

On defense, the team flashes - Josey Jewell is outstanding but he can't be everywhere. I have watched other teams. There are a lot of other teams with more athletic, quicker defensive linemen and linebackers who can get pressure. This defense also gets gashed from time to time. When that happens you just wonder WTF? The DB's, again, they flash brightly but also leave guys wide open and the tackling can be off.

It all adds up to a very middling team

There you have it. We have a choice about you you view it. All insistence on excellence of something outside of self is a waste of energy. Feel free to insist on excellence - and if you have a say or input on the team - great. Go for it. But if you are just another bozo on the bus, I would not waste my time.

This may mean not attending games, this may mean not using this site, this may mean doing both with more pleasure.

Will you explain How can you "count on" two receivers without being able to "count in" the QB to get them the ball?

The entire offense sans AW has been inconsistent starting with the OL.

When we start playing teams with above average secondaries again, Stanley is going to get eaten alive with his over throws and passes into triple coverage. No one has made him pay yet.

Maybe. I doubt it.

But my question remains:
So how can you "count on" receivers who are dependent on a QB that you can't "count on"?

Stanley can be inconsistent, and yet consistently expect those two to catch pasess. And still HE can be and is, inconsistent in other aspects of the game.

Okay. Understand what you're saying.

I guess I've seen a number of dropped balls from those two (and a fumble) to put them in the "count on" list. They haven't been consistent either.

I'm not real consistent in my analysis. Some are consistently inconsistent, others not so much. ;):)

No doubt that our Hawks can take us on a roller coaster ride - but aren't they fun though?

Imagine if you were a 'bama fan. How borrrring would that be to win all the time! :D

I don't know. I've watched 8-4 seasons that weren't much fun. This season has been fun, except the road trip to MSU, but that wasn't unexpected, and at least I got to fly fish for salmon.

IIRC, we've played 11-13 redshirt and true freshman. There are extremely talented (for Iowa) players in the pipeline. I'm not sure how many wins it translates into this season, but I suspect you're watching something that's going to be very good. As soon as next season, but the loss of some of the linebackers, and how their replacements develop, is the key. I think the RB loss will be fine. Not that Wadley isn't an incredibly talented guy, and I've been big on Wadley since he came out, but we have some kids there that look the part.

So maybe as early as next season. And this season isn't a loss. Probably 2 to 3 seasons. It is almost guaranteed. The stars are aligning for a special season, and it is mandatory if the succession (conspiracy) plan is to succeed. Which is to say Coach Brian.

"Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." OR, " Do I contradict myself? Very well, then. I contradict myself. I am large. I contain multitudes." Anybody name the speakers of these phrases?

I remember the first one on a commercial.

Emerson, Self-Reliance.

Whitman, Song of Myself, Leaves of Grass.

"I am a man who, from his youth upwards, has been filled with a profound conviction that the easiest way of life is the best."

A better one for you, especially,

"here am I, forlorn, torn from my high estate, hunted of men, despised by the cold world, ragged, worn, heart-broken, and degraded to the companionship of felons on a raft!”
