You are the AD at one of the most seminal athletic departments in the country trying to make a decision about your football program, which just happens to be the winningest program of all time, at an institution that is one of the most prestigious in the world.

How do you let what happened today happen? How do you not control the flow of information? It's bad enough that you hired this guy in the first place but this entire thing is so so so sloppy. It is an embarrassment for Michigan.

maybe he put it out that rrod was to be fired, to try and shake Harbaugh loose. he didn't fire rrod in the meeting waiting for word from harbaugh's people. no word from harbaugh's people so just say hey, what's going on, and still have a coach in hand.

I think ankle is close to what is going on, I think you have two factions using media sources to negotiate Harbaugh's pay. I think ultimately Brandon is using the media for his gain here and so is Harbaugh. And obviously the media are easy to manipulate in situations like this.

Certainly there are plenty of discussions taking place: Rich-Rod's ultimate severance payment; status of his key assistants; wording of the statement announcing his departure; negotiations with Harbaugh's people.
