Your reaction to today's presser....

Yes.

I'm also appalled that neither Barta nor Ferentz could find a way back to Iowa City to attend. I predict this will almost become a bigger issue than 13 hospitalized players.

Don't know about lawsuits...

Do you foresee any lawsuits against the University?

it doesn't appear that they ignored the plights of the players. They are all in the hospital and all receiving treatment. Assuming all fully recover not sure where the lawsuit would come from.

But, as a PC, that was a disaster. Answered none of the questions that the public is wanting to hear answers to. If you end up with 12-13 players in the hospital as a result of a workout or workouts, then something is wrong/someone screwed up, or both.

There were no answers because they don't have the answers yet.

The big whiff was not having a S&C coach there to talk about specifics of the workout. Other than that they don't have any answers.

Re: Don't know about lawsuits...

Lawsuits? No. Unless they can find evidence that players were forced to work even when it was known they shouldn't or that workout conditions were dangerous (hot or humid room, no water given, etc), or that the staff provided dangerous supplements.

My reactions:

(1) The presser was horribly managed
(2) Iowa will be hammered in the press for about 1 day and then they'll move onto something else, like some stupid quote or tweet from one of the SuperBowl participants
(3) This will have no impact with respect to recruiting

Not having Ferentz, Doyle/S&C staff or Barta at the press conference was dumb. Everyone could've waited until tomorrow morning when KF was back in town, the press conf had no sense of credibility with a "spokesman," doctor who is NOT treating the students and a dad who flew in yesterday. Really poorly done.

This.

Poggi's dad said exactly what the workout was (squats and sled pull). What more could Doyle add?
Look, these workouts have happened in the past and this is the FIRST time something like this has happened. If I had to guess they had bad supplements and coupled with a rigorous workout and that doesn't make for a pretty outcome.

I guarantee the U of I attorneys told them all (except Mr. Poggi) what they could and couldn't say. They also probably told the S&C coaches to go lock themselves in their offices until they could investigate this further. They should have waited until Kirk got back to IC this afternoon and yes Barta should have been there.

Here is what I don't understand about some of the views:

Action) Iowa holds off until KF is back in town and has a presser tomorrow
Result) People ***** up a storm because there is no information coming out of IC

Action) Have Doyle at the presser
Result) Cannot reveal details about the workout because they are still investigating or trying to put all of the facts together

Action) Have everyone at the presser within 2 hours of the event being reported
Result) Everyone is there with absolutely nothing to say because at that early stage, no one knows anything.

Tell me this....how exactly do you all think this should have played out?

I'm not saying that the U of I PR/Marketing department is immune from questioning, in fact, I think they are pretty poor, but I really don't understand how so many people are looking for and EXPECTING answers when they don't really even have all of the information together yet.

So again, how do you think this should have played out?

it is an on-going investigation....the PC was fine. More info to follow when more facts are established.
