Your prediction for the Hawkeyes in March

I think Iowa is a Sweet 16 team. Anything more than that will depend on Iowa getting very favorable matchups and hot shooting.

I think it will take another team that has some elite athletes to beat Iowa, but that doesn't mean that on a given day Iowa can't beat anyone.

Ok...
We win at Indiana, win at home against Purdue, and lose at MSU.
We still get a first round bye at the B1G tournament, which we make it to the finals and lose to MSU.
We get a #4 seed in the tournament...We lose to Florida in the sweet sixteen

OR
We lose at Indiana, win at home against Purdue and lose at MSU
We play on the first day of B1G tournament and advance to semi's where we lose to MSU
We garner an 8 seed and lose in 2nd round to Witchita State

Big game tonight. I would say this would be considered a not-so-good loss, and drop us to a 7 in the next Bracketology. Win tonight, and Iowa seems destined to go into the BTT as a fringe 5/6 seed team. It will depend on the conference tournament from there. Maybe a chance to play its way up to a 4.

I have to say I'm rooting for the 6 line at this point.

One and done in the NCAAs... Is that better than a long run in the NIT? Developmental wise? Recruiting wise? I say No.

I think most recruits are watching the teams in the NCAA Tournament, though, not so much teams in the NIT.

You may have an argument about player development due to the extra games in the NIT, but no way do I think runs in the NIT outweigh NCAA appearances from a recruiting standpoint. Kids want to play in the NCAA Tournament.

Besides, so far, it doesn't seem that NIT run Iowa made has made recruits start beating down our door this year.

Alfraud's years? Many high quality recruits?

Not sure what you're trying to say. Alford's recruiting wasn't that great. He inked a Top 10 class the year he got to Iowa, sure, but Iowa was also coming off the Tom Davis era and a Sweet 16 and Alford was the flavor of the month at the time. He also had the class with Horner & Brunner, but again, Iowa had just been to the NCAA's in 2001 and was expected to be Top 10-15 the next year, so things were looking pretty good with the program around the time those guys signed, although am not sure of the exact dates.

Recruiting dropped off pretty bad after that, overall. Go take a look at the 2003 recruiting classes forward. Other than Tyler Smith (4*), it was pretty dismal. Particularly 2003-05. Is it a coincidence that Iowa didn't make the NCAA's from 2002-04, and the 2003-05 classes were weak? Or that Tyler Smith signed in April 2006, a month after Iowa was invited to the NCAA tournament as a 3 seed?

Elite 8, I have feelings this team gonna bodyslams some team they shouldn't........

It's about time Iowa is "that team" who makes some noise in their bracket. :D I think this team has the potential to do it, though, in all seriousness. Just gotta get hot at the right time. But that's what March Madness is all about, right? Not necessarily always who is the best team, but who gets hot and can string some W's together.

I hope as far as March goes that the hawks are in a month long hot shooting spell.

Good shooting is a must. I think the hawks need to play a little less help defense and get back to guarding their man.

Getting basabe back and having a couple of shot alterers around the rim will help.

Hawks play on the weekend in the BTT and win at least one in the Dance.

If Iowa plays MSU again in the BTT all eyes will again be on the refs to see if they call it fair unlike last years screw job.

Re: Your prediction for the Hawkeyes in March (and April)

  1. NCAA Final 4
  2. NCAA Elite 8
  3. NCAA Sweet 16
  4. NCAA round of 32. (My bad)
  5. NCAA First Round
  6. NIT Championship
  7. NIT Late round loss
  8. NIT early round loss

1 and done. I hate to say it, but our defense has abandoned us. still a number of games left, so maybe we can turn things around.
