Your morning pick-me-up

Ok, help me out here people. There was a play at the Metrodome. I always remember it as Tim Dwight, but I have never been able to find a replay of it. We punted the ball. It was a high floater, when the Gopher player caught it he was standing on about the 10 yard line or so. He immediately got his head taken off by a Hawkeye and fumbled the ball. We picked it up and jogged into the endzone with it.
Does anybody remember that play or did I dream it? Was it Tim Dwight?

The play you're describing was Bob Sanders in the 2002 game.

Ahhh.... God bless you. And Shada remains 100% correct.

Now where can I find that highlight? Still searching, no success.

Try the old ScotHawk site; if it's still up he has some pretty good videos from the 2002-2005 seasons.

Also, in actuality, Bob overran the play, came back and stripped the ball from behind. Seeing as how Iowa kicked so much *** in that game, I'm guessing it was on a kickoff return.

I think 1h1 is actually describing a combination of two plays against Michigan. In 2002, Sanders hit the returner and forced a fumble, which Scott Boelyn (sp?) recovered around the 10 yard line (not a scoop and score, but I always find myself thinking that we did score on that play). And in 2003, Sanders got a pretty good lick on Steve Breaston.

They're both fairly early in this video on YouTube (Originally from ScotHawk):

Of the ones I attended I rate the following:

loudest:
CJ Jones opening kickoff against USC. Yes, louder than 'the catch' and even louder than Dallas Clark's catch at home against Purdue. (Must have been at least 50,000 Hawkeye fans at the Orange Bowl) My ears hurt in a good way and you could feel the stadium shaking!

coolest:
Both the setting and the results. Clayborn's block and return against PSU in 2009. We bumblebee's were all huddled up until that play trying to stay warm in the cold and rain. After the block, the rain and cold seemed to just float away. The 'White Out' was an incredible sight but it was amazing how quiet 100,000 plus are when they're hearts are torn out :)

most exciting
back to 'the catch'. Many neutral fans around us became Hawk fans that day. It was a beautiful thing hugging and high-fiving complete strangers. It was an instant classic and probably the only time we were celebrities back in Iowa because of a game we attended.

should be mentioned
2002 at Minnesota. Seeing the fans parading the goalposts around the inside of the Metrodome is something I will never forget. Does anyone remember some of the feedback noise? Sounded to me like UFO's were landing :) trying to get the fans to leave. Also, the clip below shows Bob Sanders causing a the bone jarring fumble that someone was asking about earlier in this thread.

Possibly, but that would also mean that Iowa played Michigan in the Metrodome.

I remember that noise. I think they called it "riot noise" when we were up there. Also remember some of the Minneapolis police beating the snot out of a couple fans that ran onto the field late. I just sat up in the stands, finished my dome-dog and beer, and watched the goalposts travel around the field. It was pretty amusing.

Hawk fans were just enjoying the win on the turf when they started the riot noise. The riot noise is what caused the fans to get mad and tear down the goal posts. It was a good bit after the game when the post came down.
