Young and Prideful.

As we said to start this season, and have said throughout this year.. This team is young, meaning mental mistakes, frustrating turnovers and bonehead Defense..

That being said, this team has grown up A LOT in this season, more than I would have expected with more success than I would have expected after watching them at the beginning of the year.

Boy is it fun to watch the young energy on the court with the prideful "swagger" they carry. They lay it out on the line, get scrappy, and play physical. Haven't seen them back down yet.

I was especially impressed today by Elingson, Cook, Pemsl, and of course Bohannon.. I LOVED during the 2nd half when Bohannon was playing against Webster and playing tough, not letting him get to his spot on the court, and after a few tries, Webster committed the Offensive Foul out of frustration. Very savvy. Also, When Bohannon was bringing the ball up court and knew that Jacobson was behind him and Nebraska was in foul trouble.. so he stopped and made Jacobson run him over committing the foul and sending JB to the FT line. Those are plays you absolutely can't teach.

All in all I'm extremely proud of this YOUNG and PRIDEFUL team.

Were in good shape for the future. Let these kids get some battle scars and lookout...good game with a tough stretch coming up on the road....very winnable if they play tenaciously like they have been...

Just remember that the 3 game losing streak was with Jok playing hurt. If we can somehow win the two games next week, I'll be back on the hoping for the NCAA Tournament train.

Agreed. It's frustrating how Iowa will go through spurts, however of missing so many damn Free Throws. And they always haunt us.

If I remember correctly, Free Throws hurt Iowa when we played @ Nebraska?

Iowa went 13-17, Nebraska went 19-35 including missing both at the end of regulation when 1 would've won it. Their free throw shooting was the only reason we were even in that game to begin with.
 
Team really seems to breathe with JB and Ellingson having the ability to shoot and make outside shots...MG and Sapp...weren't much of a threat...clogging up the lane, dragging the Iowa offense to a crawl, leading to clunker shots, panic shots and turnovers...

As the Fab-4 grow...even more dangerous.
 
Can't have enough good shooters. That said, as long as the goal of the season isn't getting Jok a scoring title or grooming him for the NBA...the team does well. He needs to be an option, not the only option the wheel revolves around. Jok had some nice passes today and excelled at the FT line. Defense, well, not so much.

The Iowa team is maturing. They have won their last three games by double digits. It will be interesting to see how they do on the road against Minnesota with only a couple of days to prepare.
 
A strong post presence is a need. Pemsl, Cook, Baer, Uhl all fill in the best they can. I hope Garza will help remedy that problem. As I watch this team grow, I wonder who might leave after this year.

Are you saying defensively? Offensively Pemsl (leading B1G in FG %) and Cook are two of the best low post options we've had since Fran has been here.

Don't know that they looked much worse with Pete out there. He had some nice rebounds, assists, and 8-8 from the FT line. The offense didn't bog down when he got the ball because he didn't try to much 1 on 1 stuff and kept the offense flowing by passing it freely. His defense was about as good as we'll see from him this game. And he causes the defense to worry about what he can do when he gets the ball, freeing up some other guys.
