You Be the coach

I am hoping Iowa won't be road kill...and roll over...

Team and coaches need to be motivated from the opening kick off...no KF sleep walking for himself or team.

Take some chances...let Stanley be the star...if he throws some INTs, at least we tried...

24-13 loss means nothing...no moral victories...go for it...

when was the last time a Big 10 blew Iowa out?

Boy...I don't know...you tell me...

It was probably Ohio State, or Wisconsin...

Difference between "staying close" and a win...

hang with them for a half, catch a break in the second half, and hold on until the end of the game. storm the field. go home happy.

Ohio State's offensive game plan will probably not differ much from what they usually do. Be aggressive early and build a lead to take the crowd out of the game and you'll likely be fine. On defense, Ohio State will probably do just fine handling the Iowa rushing attack with their front 7 much like Michigan State did so there is really no need to get overly exotic on defense unless proven otherwise. I'm sure the Buckeye's young secondary is better than it was in early September, but there is no need to bring 8 men to the box and leave yourself vulnerable early in the game even against Iowa's passing game. Really, if you're Ohio State, just avoid giving the football game away on defense.

Iowa should probably approach this game on offensive as though they can't win this game physically. Ohio State will a significant edge up front on this side of the ball so a game plan should include a lot of play action, screens, misdirection. Really anything that can counter balance Ohio State's advantage there. The personnel will likely take Iowa lightly so Iowa may have a chance to catch some defenders looking to make highlight plays. I would also encourage Stanley to give some tosses downfield if he sees one on one opportunities. Maybe you get a pass interference call or a who knows, maybe your guy catches it this week. Since Iowa won't be able to physically dominate this game (they really haven't been able to do it against Big 10 teams not named Illinois), they probably can't count on playing keep away right from the git-go. Repetitive 9 and 10 play drives can't be how Iowa expects to win this game so finding ways to get big chunk yards will be important. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, but that's how they should probably approach the game from a macro level besides looking for individual match ups you believe are exploitable.

On defense, it's going to be pretty much about hanging on. I'd welcome JT Barrett taking the ball 20+ times on designed runs. Not because he isn't effective, but because over the course of the game maybe those hits and all the running wear him down which could help you late in the game. With that said, him running the ball in passing situations would scare me. On obvious passing situations, I'd encourage the DL to stay in their rushing lanes so to speak instead of going all out to create pressure to avoid creating space for Barrett have the opportunity to improvise. Maybe this will help in batting some balls down as well. If JT Barrett wins the game by making throws from the pocket, that's how I'll choose to lose if I'm Iowa on defense.

If I were Urban Meyer, I would not bother doing anything new, at least schematically, against Iowa. Nothing has changed (other than some personnel) so whatever he's prepared for in the past should still be applicable. If anything, he could use this as an opportunity to try out a few plays/formations that they might be using against Michigan and/or Wisconsin should they meet in the Big Ten championship game. But that is not very likely, given there's no need to tip his hand to any future opponents in order to beat Iowa.

One thing I expect is he will be pouring it on until the end, he has to make a statement against Iowa in order to enhance his CFP chances. A 2 TD victory margin is not going to get the voters' attention and vault them over Oklahoma if Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State this Saturday. Time is running out for him and he does not want anything (including a tight victory margin) impeding his team's final position in the poll. If they win out, maybe he has little to worry about, but right now he has some work to do.

Kind of like Kirk did to Nebraska last year only we weren't worrying about no CFP.

The OSU only needs to have 8 or 9 guys at or near the line and blitz a lot. They do this and their offense may not even be needed Saturday as their D will out score Iowa.

As I've said elsewhere. I hope I am 1,000% wrong.

As someone else said, if I were Urban Meyer I would do absolutely nothing different tomorrow. Our defense is not nearly as good as people think it is, and we struggle with teams that run an offense like OSU with a mobile qb. OSU has the talent to just line it up and ram it down our throats if they want. This is the difference in recruiting MAC talent, and top tier talent that OSU recruits. Their lines on both sides of the ball will be able to dominate ours, as our lines are both a weak spot compared to past years. Outside of Jackson, our secondary is able to be exposed by teams that have speed, and athleticism. On offense it could be a very long day for us. OSU has one of the top lines in the nation, as well as very athletic linebackers and dbs. I hope Stanley makes it through the game honestly. OSU will be out to prove a point after coming in 6th in the BCS rankings.

This thread is making me feel like Hawkeyes must have felt every game during the Nagel/Cummings years. Impending doom and hopelessness.

We do have two guys at the top in the nation with Jewell and Jackson so our defense is not a total charade. Hopefully our 2 and 3 stars want to show their 4 and 5s they can stand toe to toe.

2016, Penn St, 41-14. Does that count as a blow out?
2014, Minnesota, 51-14. Does that count as a blow out?

Yes those be blow outs. Happens sometimes although how against Minnesota is one I don't think anyone could answer. Ohio State had a bad day against Oklahoma. Oklahoma had a bad day against ISU. It happens.

Okay, maybe I got the first part wrong, but I nailed the second part. A great day for all Hawkeye fans.
