Year to Date Stats for committed Iowa Recruits:

Class Nat'l Rank State Rank
T. Cook 2016 71 (4*) 2

No Stats were readily available for Cook, but he is a top 100 recruit with a highlight reel of dunks and tons of athleticism. He has a big 10 ready body and figures to play a big role right away.

Class Nat'l Rank State Rank Pts Rb FG% FT% 3Pt%
C. Pemsl 2016 170 (3*) 1 22.3 10.1 66% 64% 17%
R. Kriener 2016 281 (3*) 2 21.2 11.9 68% 71% 33%
J. Bohannon 2016 284 (3*) 3 24.8 48% 94% 41%

C. McCaffery 2017 96 (4*) 1 17.4 45% 77% 42%

J. Wieskamp 2018 28 (5*) 1 21.4 9.4 54% 71% 27%

Future looks pretty solid with this group of guys.

People are afraid of our point guard situation next year but having a 94% free throw shooter at the end of games and a point guard who can bury 3's can make up for a lot.

Agreed. I just hope he doesn't get into funks where he wants to dribble around aimlessly and get stuck along the baseline looking like a helpless squirrel without a tree.

I'm concerned with his strength and quickness, not his talent.

We are a top team with a quick point guard who can't shoot or make clutch free throws. We will essentially be trading quick for good shooting. And that's if he's not quick, which he might be.

A lot of freshmen points look like that from time to time. Horner, Gesell did so at that point of their careers once in awhile. Or me when I played point in junior high school for that matter.

Yeah, Gesell did it 3 times in a row Thursday in Bloomington.

Point taken, PC, and that is exactly why I'm not worried about his talent. But I believe Bohannon could use a red shirt to gain strength and work on quickness. However, that doesn't seem realistic based on the current roster. But if Bohannon isn't quick enough to hang with other guards, defensively, or get past them offensively, then that is a liability and could also affect whether he can get open to utilize what we all feel is a superior and excellent jump shot.

Maybe what JB lacks in quicks he can make up with in smarts. You can cover up a lack of athleticism when you know where to be, how to position yourself, use the right footwork, etc.

I believe Gesell was a 90%+ free throw shooter in high school as well. What I don't get is so many shooters have their free throw percentages drop from high school to college yet the distance doesn't change. Don't know if they are just getting the line more in high school so they have a larger sample size or the fact the arenas are so much larger in college.

I really thing Gesell ruined himself with those misses in Ames 2 years ago.

Mike seems to miss a LOT of free throws late in games when he's pretty gassed. I'd also be interested in seeing home / away FT%, college certainly adds a bigger distraction on the road than HS.

I think it it's combination of pressure and the amount of energy players have spend playing D at this level. Underclassmen typically don't have the physical attributes to maintain a high level of energy through a whole game... I think we underestimate how much the physical drain can affect the concentration on a lot of players
