X and O guy...Please explain in detail...

Is it my imagination or is it fact that our TE production has drastically gone down hill as the season has gone on?

TE production did indeed go down. I suspect it is because Stanzi was being "taught" to not rely on the open recievers in the middle of the field - even if they are wide open. I lost count of the number of times to open TE was not thrown to...

We hit them on a few key third downs against Minnesota, but other than that we seemed to totally forget about them the last 4 games of the season.

I don't understand what you mean. Why in the hell would he be "taught" to not through to an open receiver no matter who or where they are on the field? If the dude is open give him the freaking ball. I don't care if you run the same play 5 times in a row. If it works do it! We have outstanding TE's...no reason they aren't thrown to 15 times a game minimum.

and how many time did a defender miss a tackle or fail to break up a pass? how many game winning drives did Iowa give up? the offense could have done a lot more and so could have the defense, they both rely on one another to be decent. it's just been one of them years of what ifs' and could of, should of, would of types of things................very frustrating for sure.

The defense was gassed in most of those games b/c our anemic offense couldn't sustain a drive to save their lives. Someone posted our ranks for the past 10 yrs for both offense and defense in another thread. Not hard to see where the deficiency generally lies.

Then how do you explain Northwestern, Indiana, and Minnesota? And why couldn't Iowa score any more against Michigan - who has just as bad of a defense?

good point and question. For the NW, Indy, and Minny games, I think it was a combination of playing calling as well as some of the players not being mentally into each of those games. Iowa was dominant in all aspects of the ISU and PSU games in the first half.

As far as Michigan, 38 points was the second highest point total against Michigan at home. Wiscy scored 48. I think it was a combination of the game being at Michigan and some questionable play calling in the second half.

Whether we like it or not, KF and staff will never "run up" a score no matter how dominant the team is on any given day. They kind of shut down the offense and that is why teams get back into games against Iowa. They have a chance to lay the hammer down, and they just don't do it. The team even becomes complacent.
