WR Marcus Grant to transfer

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here. I guess you mean that I shouldn't be surprised, and really, I'm not; I'm just scratching my head. Also, the comments people were making on Twitter weren't anonymous. I guess that's the surprise for me. That people would put their name by some of the stupid stuff they were saying.

In his own somewhat indirect way I think silvanthalas was agreeing with you.

Agree with both of you: pretty sick that fans would trash a kid like that. But not necessarily surprising, considering the continued adoration of JoePa in Penn State nation and the death threats being made towards Sandusky's accusers. What the hell are some people thinking?

I love how some guys are using this as an opportunity to blast Ferentz. I bet Grant was mad that McCall didn't get more PT, which is why he's leaving.

Wrong. He is miffed at KF for black-listing DJK in the NFL.

People that write that garbage on a kid's twitter:

"we need athletes not *******" are not fans of anything, they are idiots and it is unfortunate that they are associated with the UI, the football fans, and the state of Iowa.

This kid was the first committ last year and was a true hawkeye, family comes first. I'm sure even Vin would transfer from the HN boards if there were family issues.

Anybody who blames this kid or Ferentz for this are IDIOTS. Get real and grow up.

Also to kmotuff or whatever your handle is, if you wouldn't send your kid to Iowa to play for Ferentz who would you send him to: Ron Zook? Paterno- he cares about his players.

You see Ferentz from the stands and you know he doesn't interact with the players get real. I know someone who worked for the team for 3 years and that is not the case.

Say the "family issues" entail someone being diagnosed with a serious illness, or something along those lines? The kid was VERY excited to come here, and I'd wager it'd take something pretty big to compel him to leave.

Exactly. I've been in the 'calling for change' crowd around here (to a degree), but if it's not the best thing for the player, as a person, to stay in Iowa City, then Kirk should not 'work on' getting them to stay.

This sucks. I thought he was going to be in the mix in the next year or so but he has to do what's right for him. As for the twitter incidents. Never underestimate the ability for rival fans to pose as posters and tweet stupid **** like that.

I wish I could bring myself to believe that is the case. I have much less faith in our fan base than you sir. It may account for some of it, but it would surprise me very little to find out these are indeed from Hawk "fans." :(

+2. We must have a bunch of rival posers on HN.com.........

I don't think it was PT, because I think he was going to get some time next year. He got in a bit this year, even when KD went down with injury he got some snaps. I think he was going to get some snaps next year and then the following year be a major part of the O. JMHO, but it is sad if something did happen in his family that he has to leave. Iowa fans need to support him not bash him

And if those people are of other fan bases, they should be just as ashamed as if they were Iowa fans. that is some of the most classless things I've read. If I had twitter I would tweet him to tell him to ignore all idiots.

.

Agree totally, the young man had nothing but good things to say in his commentary. I enjoy visiting this site frequently but this site like most all have their childish elements. I swear they either are wanna-be writers for the National Enquirer or they haven't moved beyond the sandbox stage.

this loss is more than likely a family issue, i wish him the best as long as its not against Iowa
the loss is not a big one as he was a freshmen
the good from this s it allows the staff to get another WR this year
by my count the # of scholarships to give is now 21
18 sr's and 2 transfers and 1 now on a medical scholarship
which means 9 left

I didn't look; I just assumed most of the involved accounts were as anonymous as most posters on this forum.

But then, as I also pointed out in the thread about anonymity, some don't have it and are still willing to be total f*ckwads.

Seeing some awful stuff some "fans" are tweeting to Marcus- no call for that garbage. I hope it stops because some ugly comments are making the normal Hawkeye fans look just horrible.

I have to say, if the typical Internet fan is what our "real" fan base looks like, we are in trouble. The change we need is new fans...

Soooo...some scrub is transferring.
Tell me when I should begin panicking.

He played as a TR FR at a position where Iowa had two players with a lot of experience.

There are a lot of great Iowa players who didn't touch the field as TR FR. I'd hardly call him a scrub.

I have only been back for about a week, and I'm already leaning towards disappearing again because of just what you said right here. I was back-reading a couple days ago and got so disgusted by the same stupid tripe that the fans have said for years that I wanted to scream....

Wont displace an upper classmen....happened several times this year....

Wont give a youngster playing time.....again it happened multiple times in the last several years. And by multiple I mean about 30 times...

KF keeps chasing kids off....really....truly these are bad fans. Not bad Iowa fans mind you, just bad college football fans. All you have to do is pull up yahoo on a daily basis and kid, after kid, after kid is transferring out, ineligible, in trouble, etc.....

More to the truth, their not bad fans as much as just dim and completely out of the loop to the point, they shouldn't be allowed to weigh in on any message board, because their thoughts are jaded and short-sighted at best.

I agree, the bitterness and complete inability of our "Internet" fans to be rational and introspective embarrasses me to the point. That I often avoid chit-chatting with people I see wearing Iowa paraphernalia for fear they start into a KF, KOK, etc, rant...
