Class of 2016 Maryland WR Devonte Young has just committed to Iowa.

He's listed as 6'1" 185lbs and listed as running a 4.45 40.

Rutgers and Pittsburgh had offered, while having looks from Florida, Maryland and Penn State.

Jury is still out on hat, HI. None of these '16's will play a down for Iowa in '15 and aren't even signed, yet. We still need 9 wins in '15 for kfootball to be here in '16, in my opinion. So, I don't think anyone is sweating just yet. But, we have a really good buzz surrounding recruiting and it's been missing since '10. Let's just enjoy what appears to be a promising class and keep the '15 season separate from the '16 recruiting class.

On rivals, it says he is 6'0 and runs a 4.62 40. Zero stars. He does have two other BCS offers, though. I'm guessing he is a high 2 star or low 3 star caliber recruit. That should add some depth at WR. I'd still like to see us bring in a highly touted WR to be our go to playmaker for years to come.

I have been as critical as KF as anyone and pretty much had Iowa FB left for dead until we got a new coach. This staff really seems to be working hard to prove me and others like me wrong. I truly hope they do.

If you wanna run your mouth all the time about recruiting, at least educate yourself. The kid has an offer from Rutgers and Pitt, and was the top WR at a Pitt camp. He was also hearing a lot from Penn St and Florida. Maryland wanted him to camp with them badly as well.

There is plenty of information on these kids between Rivals/Scout/247, plus you have Twitter on top of that. Just like I told you with Lattimore we will be lucky if we can keep this kid in the cold come signing day.

I'm cool as a cucumber on the other side of the pillow.

Last I checked, the outside still allows to look in through a 60" HD window, not to mention enjoying as many chilled bottles of Lagunitas IPA as I wish, without the aggravation of cooter Brown sqawking at me to sit down.

This fall is going to be glorious.

I like some of this, but if you think KF needs 9 wins to keep his gig...you's loco.

Sweating what? On the outside looking in where?

There are thousands of tickets available.

Things are trending well but nothing to get excited about until signing day and then the day they start playing.

I think the people who didnt renew or in my case really dropped the number of tickets we buy are really more showing displeasure at a stale product that has a lot of issues. We had some good talent last year but the results were poor and I dont see it being the players faults really.

EXACTLY! Like I said, here,

Hawks have had plenty of talent, including at many skill positions, to be far more successful than they have been over the last decade. It's not just a stale product but a stale product combined with really bad strategy and misuse / no use of weapons compatible with scheme.

At last a voice of reason among Kirk-haters or former Kirk-haters.

You act as if this is a class like '05. It's a class full of middling 3 stars. There are 0 4 stars in this class. Pathetic that people are getting this amped. Just goes to show how low KF has lowered expectations.

I like how this staff continues to do a great job recruiting. They are putting together a very good class. Devonte Young looks like he will make a great receiver for Iowa. His film is very impressive. It is also encouraging to see the program be able to recruit so successfully on the east coast and Chicago. Kids are also committing early to Iowa. The efforts of the staff and the impact of the new facility are really paying off. The other thing I like is how well balanced this class is especially this early in the process. So far there are 8 offensive, and 7 defensive players. On defense there are 3 lineman, 3 linebackers, and a defensive back. On offense there are 2 lineman, 1 QB, 2 Rbs, 1 TE, 1 WR and 1 athlete. Keep up the good work!

It's interesting to compare 4-stars vs 3-stars (or lower) in fairly recent classes (where the evidence on the field is known). The following is based on Rivals ratings.

2010
4-stars: Coker, Derby, Donnal, Fiedorowicz
3-stars: Scherf, Davis, Morris, Kirksey, Hardy
2-stars: Hitchens, LTP, KMM

2011
4-stars: Blythe, Coe, Hamilton, Walsh
3-stars: Duzey, Rudock, Lomax, Krieger Coble, Cooper, Hillyer, Alston
2-stars: Canzieri

2012
4-stars: Ekakitie, Garman, Johnson, Ward
3-stars: Beathard, Tevaun Smith, Ott, Draper, Fleming

I'll admit that I am only showing the better 3-stars. But I'm convinced that the line between 3 and 4 stars is totally blurred and that it is not really worth stressing over.

Exactly. I'll give credit, we seem to be generating some buzz in our recruiting. At least the last two guys have offers besides the Ball St of the world.

I honestly don't think it really matters if we start pulling in 5*, it doesn't change that we have some severe issues with game day coaching. We don't have another three to four years for these guys to potentially develop. Kirk does not have that luxury anymore.

2015 he needs to get to 9 wins, or he's done. We have a very easy schedule, maybe easier than last year when you consider the tougher teams we play are transitioning in new staffs, and losing a lot of good players.

I'm sorry but I just don't believe after 16 years KF is going to change. He's made little changes, but the macro is still a boring, bland and sometimes baffling display in coaching and schemes.
