Wow, Penn State is bad

Watched the majority of the Penn State game and that team is not very good. Illinois completely dominated every aspect of the game. I think Joe Pa is going to start getting the heat again like he did a few years ago. I was pulling for Penn State because not a Zook fan. Not taking anything away from our win against Penn State but this is not the Nittany Lion team of a year ago. Tough for any team to have to play a freshman quarterback.

To be completely honest, I think Illinois might be "that good". They hung with OSU and went on the road to beat Penn St. Even though, State isn't great, Illinois has looked pretty consistent the past two weeks.

True. Illinois played tough against Ohio State.

Penn State had a lot of guys on defense out today like DEs Crawford, Latimore, Massaro, Stanley. LBs Mauti, Gbadyu, Hodges, DBs Sukay, Dailey, Thomas

Kinda taking the luster off of the win last week. Wonder what the score would have been if KOK had continued running the same gameplan from the first two series for the whole game.

OSU went into a bigger slowdown than Iowa did after Pryor got hurt last week. They knew Illannoy couldn't score on their D and left it up to them to win the game.

Deace made the comment that PSU was a 6-6 team disguised as a 9-3 team....well, i'm going to amend that and say PSU is a 5-7 team, that is a 5-7 team.

Yes, agreed. The game was more about Illinois that PSU. Illinois hung with OSU, who just rolled Indiana.

Not really an accurate portrayal of how the game went down. OSU, after Prior got hurt, ran the ball nearly every play. We're talking something like 15 runs to 1 pass, if even that. As an earlier poster stated, OSU knew IllAnnoy wasn't going to score on their D and was content with merely burning the clock by keeping the ball on the ground. Though improved, Zooker and Co. are mediocre at best.

Pryor got hurt in the 3rd quarter, as OSU hung onto a 14-10 lead. You can't blame the injury for the close score.

You also can't say that OSU wouldn't have exploded for 21 or 28pts in the fourth quarter with Pryor in the game. Besides, IMO OSU is overrated once again. No way they're the second best team in the nation.

Even if JoePa gets run out of town or retires, the team isn't going to change if they promote in house. That one guy has been on staff waiting to inherit the HC position for years now. IMO if JoePa leaves all that does is hurt Penn State's recruiting since that is about all JoePa does right now anyway, and his replace will never be as good as him at recruiting.

I think that there is a "dual" issue going on here.

First off, Penn State is imploding some as a team ... it sounds like there are differing factions on the team and there is likely a good bit of finger pointing in the locker room. Thus, the loss to Iowa was probably VERY deflating to them as a team. Thus, that only further amplified the internal issues they're having on the roster.

Secondly, PSU's QB is still a TR FR ... and Illinois plays a VERY aggressive style of D. Thus, that played to the advantage of Illinois big-time.

The biggest surprise, quite frankly to me, was how poorly Penn State defended against the run in the game. To me, that really is the biggest sign of trouble for them. Don't get me wrong, LeShoure is a VERY good runner ... however, PSU's D still should have been able to have better luck against him.

Correction ... Ritt's latest on PSU explains a lot about their troubles on D. Their D was decimated by injury against the Illini. That actually explains a lot ....

JoePa doesn't recruit at all anymore. Last visit he took was for Terrell Pryor 4 years ago, and that obviously didn't help much.

Yeah but his name still holds clout, take that away and Penn State isn't really a dream location. Personally I think Pittsburgh would start stealing recruits form Penn State if JoePa leaves, Pittsburgh just offers more than State College.
