Whoa, maybe best to not tweet this stuff. It is fine to stand behind your pupil. I dont think Padilla is out of the mix but he did not look as on target in the first half as was needed. Maybe on the road in front of about 90K he was a little jittery and maybe a little out of it illness recovery wise, we dont know.

But it worked out, Petras did well enough but not great as he missed a couple of throws and had a chance to pick up some yards and slide to avoid a hit.

The funny thing is that Padilla had two good drives and has been pretty bad since. Petras has won a lot of games too, longest streak of any Iowa starter, as I recall.

If Padilla stays in that game we likely lose. Unless he learns how to run when pressured, he is no better option than Spencer right now.

Spencer has a pretty impressive win loss resume compared to Padilla too so this clown’s argument that 2 wins over cream puffs somehow warrants sticking with him is weak. I credit Kirk for making the decision that he did.

I would have liked to have seen what Deuce can do, but I’m happy Petras went out there and won the game. Here’s to hoping the hawks blow out their bowl opponent in the first half and Deuce gets the second. I’m not holding my breath though.

Is this Alex's high school coach?

I'll help him understand. There's a reason some coaches are in high school coaching and teaching tech ed or history or science for 50-70k and there's a reason others are paid millions to make decisions like this.

Is that succinct enough? And by the way Petras was once benched as well and that too was the correct move. Don't remember hearing any negative tweets from Spencer's camp, not even from James Hetfield.

Padilla might be more talented, but I think Kirk made the correct move to put Petras in the game.

I think that spot was to big for Padilla at the moment. Really, Padilla did not get a lot of attention for being his first true road test in a hostile environment because I believe most of the attention went on Martinez being out this week.

Petras's experience in hostile road environments was needed here. I also believe we would have lost if Padilla does not get benched. He should have had several picks in this game (along with the past couple of games he has played in).

I think the QB position should be wide open after season. Both need to improve on accuracy. Whoever steps up their game should earn the job

I like what Padilla brings as far as extending plays but I feel like he didn’t do enough with his passing to make the job his own and doesn’t read the defense as well at the line. Granted, he hasn’t had the same window of opportunity that Petras had. Hopefully, there’s a true QB competition next spring

I typically hate a 2 qb system. As the saying goes if you have two, you don't have one. And of course there's the challenge if splitting reps.

From what I watched, more upside with more option in the playbook with Padilla. Gotta wonder what an off-season and camp with #1 reps would do.

That said, from a passing perspective, "good" Petras has a better arm.

Padilla seems better passer on the move. With a shaky Oline and run game...that's huge

With a good/great/stable oline and better running game(which I think we saw semblance of the last 2-3 games). Maybe Petras is the better option.

Again, I think Padilla with more experience and reps if the best option, even if just by a little.

Maybe having 2 viable options will work, if both ready and healthy. It would possibly at least give opponents more to prep for. If..if...if...you have an OC that can maximize that advantage.

...BF needs to be better...Especially in playcalling inside the opponent 30. Wayyyy to many times he got cute or went to the well too many times...and we went backwards on 1st down...which was a drive death for most Iowa offenses. We left about 50+ points on the field inside the 30 this year (maybe 100 if our kicker wasn't a stud)

As always...lots of questions will be going into next year.

Just one dumbass fans ramblings. TL: DR

Go Hawks. And for one time only go minny, ick.

Alex did not look good after most of the first drive.
He looked a lot like what everyone hates about Spencer.
He locked on, threw behind, and tossed a couple right at the defense.
He doesn't run enough to make him stand out in that regard.

Spencer came in and he settled down the loose bits. He made some really good passes when they were needed. He also threw a couple that could have been picked.
He also look smooth and threw well rolling out.

I am glad it is not my decision to make who starts next.
But I think it is clear that Alex hasn't done enough to walk away with job like his coach thinks he should.
