we had a fast break and got 3 pt play. i wish we would try to run more in our games. why not push it and if nothing is there then bring it back and set it up. we need EASY baskets.

but we have some decent depth at the bigs. it would be nice if one of them dead sprinted to the hoop to maybe get an over the top pass. I mean the kids get like 4 TV timeouts a half, plus game timeouts, plus free throw breaks. it would be pretty tough to get that tired. I played smaller college ball and we ran and gunned and played 35 minutes a game and didnt have the TV timeouts. i know not the same level of competition but come on. they play ball and workout year around. grow a pair.

Did you see who ran the point on that break? If you said Andrew Brommer you would be correct! He then went to the bench and didn't come back in until 1:30 was left in the game.

Lickliter plays possession bb. Iowa has had many opportunities for fast breaks and almost always pulls up and slows down.

I think I have it figured out why Lickliter doesn't include fast breaks in his offense. It all goes back to his playing days. He was short and slow and everytime he was involved in a fast break he got his shot blocked, so it is all psychological. When he became a coach he just figured that everybody's shot would get block so he doesn't include the fast break...it is just no use to fast break because the shot will just get blocked anyway so it is better to slow up the play. It makes perfect sense!

I think when he was little he would get in a hurry when he was being potty trained and due to this there would be clean up issues later. Todd probably still hears his mother screaming "slow down Todd, slow down" inside his head.

Just a hard habit to break.

So to summarize:
1. Shots always blocked on fast breaks and
2. Rushed Potty Training.

We play every game like we're a 14 or 15 seed trying to upset a 2 or 3 seed. Limit possesions, shoot lots of 3's, slow down the tempo, the classic recipe for a less talented team to pull an upset. But it drives me crazy, we're a big ten team, we shouldn't me playing like we're a mid major trying to pull some huge upset. We should be able to get out and run once in a while. Wisconsin, N'western, even UNI all like to slow it down too, but when they get a good opportunity to fast break, they go for it. There's no reason why Iowa shouldn't be able to do this as well.

Its because we are a 14 seed in relation to about every team we play

Not to rain on everyone's pitty party...but I thought Brommer showed some flashes of being a decent ball player last night when he wasn't being asked to guard Nash.

I'm not sure we have a big man who is capable of staying out of foul trouble.

You need athletes to run and thats something we will never have under Todd.

I bet Eric May would beg to differ on this. But you don't need superb athletes to run once in a while, I'm not talking about playing like Missouri all the time, but just pushing the ball once in a while when there's a good opportunity. It seems to be a Lickliter thing to avoid fast breaks completely.
