Wouldn't it be nice to have a QB that could run

Does he really need to run or just hit a wide open guy with nobody 20 yards near him? Or if he calls a time out and we get to replay 1st and goal from the 3?

Stanley has showed he can make plays in more of a Big Ben way of shedding tacklers and I think he has the arm strength to make the NFL throws.

Nate just has to improve his accuracy.
Yeah that and just his overall game management. He seemed to get caught up in the environment some too. Physically you bet he's exactly what the NFL wants. Yet there's gotta be a zero percent chance the NFL would be beating down his door after that game. Can he still get there after next yr? I'd sure like to think so and we'll see.

Improve his accuracy by a lot. Some of those throws were embarrassingly bad for any QB beyond the 6th grade. I won't even bring up his lack of pocket presence. Decision-making also needs to improve greatly. I used to think it was just our guys not getting open. Lately, and probably a lot of the time previously, guys have been open quite often. It's just our QB can't either find them or throw an accurate ball when he does. And honestly Nates numbers are inflated this year as our WR, and especially TEs, have made some great catches that were awful throws.
By NFL standards, our WRs are open a lot of the time.

This^^^^ is wide open in the NFL. And the QB has to be able to drop that ball into where it is in the picture, 30 yards down field, while the WR is in stride. That's what a starting NFL QB is EXPECTED to be able to do.

This^^^ is open in the NFL. The windows are very, very small.

We had one. He was under utilized in his time here. KF tried to make him a drop back passer. We might have had a NC if he'd been played more his first year and maybe would have been in the hunt the year before. The next guy after that was switched to WR.

Stanley missed a throw to wide open Hockenson down the middle for a sure TD that probably Wirfs or Recinos could have made. That one huge miss would have won this game.

Needs to get his mind straight, too. And that’s a much bigger task.

IMHO he won’t be playing on Sundays.

I’m not ready to rule him out as an NFL prospect with still a lot to play for this year and his Sr year left.

I think Nate had the potential to play himself into an opportuntity to be drafted after this year or at least has a decision to make. I don’t think he’ll have to make a decision now.

Granted I don’t think he ever would have been a high enough pick to leave early.

And not punting before half on a 4th and 10. That led to 3 PSU points. Should have been up 10 at half

If not seventeen. They started their first drive with a backup QB on our three yard line.

We got away with it against Minnesota. We weren't so lucky against Nittany Nation

I don't care about a QB that can run.

I want a QB that can throw ....

with accuracy.

Nate is very inconsistent with that.

I like Nate Stanley and have never before wanted him benched or replaced, before yesterday. So, I'm far, far from a Nate Stanley hater. That said, if you guys think that Nate Stanley is an NFL QB....you don't know much about NFL QBs. NFL QBs have to go through their progressions in under 2 seconds. They have to consistently make throws into 1'x1' windows from 1 to 30 yards down field. As much as I like Nate Stanley, he is not an accurate QB. He has plenty of stats for some of you to attempt to prove me wrong but ask yourself this question: When was the last time you saw NS hit a WR is stride, exactly where the WRs hands are, 15 yards down field? Whomever thinks they have seen this, will have to show video proof for me to believe it. And even then, you still have to explain how NS can do this 60% of the time at the speed the NFL plays at.
He'll probably get drafted in the later rounds. He has the size and he comes from a pro style offense. Barring some miracle of increased accuracy and resiliency...he'll never start an NFL game.

This is where I'm at, before yesterday I had never wanted him pulled. But after the Hock miss and the early int that completely changed the game...

He's got the measurables in spades, but way behind in the immeasurable, and I'm not sure they can improve if they haven't yet.

He gets the "yips" when he misses, makes a mistake. I'm just not sure he can just change that.

I'll come out and say this and I truly do not mean it as a shot at Stanley. Why do we care who has NFL talent. The NFL is not the same game. I'd rather have an absolute stud in college than a first round draft pick or top 3 QB in the draft. I'm not bagging on anyone here, but what someone does in the NFL or who's going to get drafted where means nothing to me, because I'm first and foremost an Iowa fan and college football is always going to trump the NFL IMO... And besides we all know that most recently a good amount of Hawkeyes end up in Green Bay or Minnesota and as a Bears fan that just flat out sucks.

So dude why you working for a pittance when you could be a sure fire sure thing QB coach?? Go Big Time!

John Gruden's QB Camp! I don't need to be a QB coach when I can listen to what an NFL QB coach has to say about the position. You act like this knowledge is hidden away in some secret vault. It's out there where everyone can see it/read it/hear it. You should pay attention more and talk shit less.

Don't u jump back on the Nate bandwagon when he shows up your asses!
I like Nate Stanley and I have no problem with him being our QB. I said he should have been benched during the game when he was stinking it up. Nothing wrong with pulling a player that's playing that badly to give another player a chance to play better. If they wanted to put Stanley back in the next game, that's fine too. I said the same thing back when Jake Christensen was throwing rocket balls into the turf. If you can't get it done, I expect the coaches to put someone in that can. I don't care what position you play. I want wins. I don't care if someone else besides Nate Stanley has to provide them.

Gruden yeah. Should have stayed on MNF!

I would have to check his career stats but gonna go out on a ledge here and say Allen never went 18-49 even on his worst day???

Think about this. 49 attempts and zero TD passes.
Actually, Allen had three games in his career at Wyoming with a completion percentage under 40. His career percentage was only 56%, which was certainly a red flag for a lot of NFL teams. And one point of correction...Allen was the third (not 2nd) QB taken in the 2018 draft....Mayfield and Darnold went higher than him.

Nate Stanley, right now, is not in the top 15 for QBs in the NFL draft. I'm not even sure it's top 25. He has been inconsistent all year. Even at Minnesota and Indiana, he just made bonehead throws. He's in his head right now, but he's been in his head since NIU. It's not even the fact that maybe he is throwing more difficult passes down the field this year...those aren't the passes that are upsetting. Down the field throws, 60-63% is pretty good. But he's been awful with short throws. In our offense right now, with as many short throws that BF calls for to move the chains...a good QB has a chance to hit 70%. Seriously. At Penn State for example...he missed short throw after short throw. You can't have this.

At this point in his career, he's shown no ability to deliver when the game is on the line. That is a trait that NFL QBs have to have...calmness under pressure and an ability to make the read and the right, accurate throw in crunch time. Nate has done neither to this point. Well, I take that back...he made a nice throw against ISU this year in crunch time...with the game on the line.

I like Nate...I was expecting him to have a big year...and was excited to watch him develop. He's just not played well.
