Would you rather......

How is it stupid? You have a young team, and experiencing the atmosphere of the NCAA tourney is great, but getting extending practices against a solid skilled teams would be better in my opinion, THIS YEAR. NCAA tourney is likely one and down, go home, season over, no more practices. NCAA's is great to hang your hat on, but will it make our team more better in the long run, instead of a deep run, marquee games, more practices of the NIT.

Why jump all over the question. Why not state some facts that adhere to your vague opinions.

Well, Iowa went to NIT last season...of all the teams I have seen discussed with the NIT, I am not sure any of them went two years in a row. Frankly, I think the team would be disappointed with another NIT berth and not an NCAA berth.

The other thing you have to take a look at here is recruiting...going to the NIT on a regular basis is not exactly a strong selling point for getting top flight recruits to come to your program. Coaches can sell their program based on where they think they are going to...imagine this: "...what we see is being competitive in our league, not really making a serious run at the conference title and look forward to success in the NIT..." Yeah can you turd in a punchbowl?

Have the basketball team make it to the NCAA tourney OR make a deep run in the NIT(ie play at Madison Square Garden)?? Just a thought that came to me this weekend.

Discuss away.....

Iowa made the NIT last year. Making the jump to the NCAA this year, even if it meant a first round loss (Iowa would likely be a 9-12 seed and thus an underdog) is preferred .

I think the goal is to provide proof to recruits (and to the fans) that the team has improved over last year. Obviously, exceeding last year's 18 wins would show improvement. An NCAA bid would show big improvement!

If we fail to make the NCAA but receive an NIT bid, going deep into the NIT brackets would also show improvement.

To me it is a question of being able to say to recruits and fans that the program is improving. The easiest way to establish a clear answer is to earn an NCAA bid.....

It's been 7 years since we went (well, once the tourney starts it will have been 7 years.) since we danced. That's, like, 10% of my life most likely (actually, it's probably more than that because I drink too much and inject heroin through my scrotum. I don't expect to live long). I would take the NCAA tournament in a heartbeat. Even if it meant losing by 40 in the first round.
