Would you be concerned about your daugher playing fooball.. errrr soccer?

I like soccer....but would watch it much more...if the goals were about a foot or two wider...increase scoring.

But the end of a close game is very fun to watch...for the world cup and such though...I will just have the game on in the background...keep tabs on it...not really watch it.

Plus, you know when they score.

NNNNNNGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

The cool thing about your kids playing soccer is….it keeps them in excellent shape and vastly improves their athleticism, because it is such a demanding sport as far as start, stop, side to side movement and explosion. It teaches them to use their body for positioning and to jump, etc…..it really translates well to other sports they may eventually play. It is my opinion that youth soccer in America is a major reason why you are seeing an upswing of the white athlete.

It is also a very exciting sport. I know there are detractors, but I am very high strung & Mr immediate gratification and I like it better than any other sport but football and maybe college bball. And that wasn’t always the case. In fact at one time I’d have been the typical short-sighted American, but the nuances and difficulty of the game. The up and down the field action, every trip in the box, every corner kick is of upmost important and very intense. It IS a very exciting sport, without any meaningless fluff and the set up kicks, for the set up kicks, for the setup, etc is intricate and cerebral. 80 yard kicks cross field foot to foot, head shots, splitting multiple defenders…honestly Im getting excited writing about it.

It’s a really cool sport that won me over…I can’t believe at one time I thought it was boring. It is so intense from the opening kick. And constant action!!

+1,000.

What 99 percent of the posters here don't realize is that soccer is actually the most physically demanding game an athlete can play short of basketball, and I would argue it even exceeds basketball because the action is continuous for 45 minutes per half with no stoppages or timeouts.

I love soccer, too. Three weeks ago I actually sat in White Hart Lane watching Tottenham Hotspur host Norwich City Canaries in a Barclays Premier League match. (Unfortunately, Tottenham lost 2-1 but it was enormously exciting.)

You've obviously never been tackled by Bob Sanders.

I don't care how physically demanding it is or how much tougher the athletes are than athletes in any other sport or how it is the most widely played game in the world.

It's boring, low scoring, full of pu$$ies feigning injury and is the most widely played sport in the world only because most of the rest of the world is poor as he!! and it's cheap to play! :)

Yeah I get what you are saying, but for me it adds to the drama. I guess I’d still like it if there was more scoring, but not more than the present edition of the game. I liken it to SEC and Big 10 football when the game goes 10-7 or 13-10, etc….I LOVE those games, where every foot is a mile. I’m not a big fan of the 52-51 shootout. I watch and it’s ok, but I still like defense and in all honesty a 21-14 football game is a 3-2 soccer match. With no provision for a “close enuffâ€￾ FG…..

And you've obviously never gotten cleats straight to the ankle or knee, taken a soccer ball directly in the face or been knocked out going to head a ball against an opponent. At least if I was tackled by Bob Sanders, I (and he) would have protective pads all over the place. And no offense to Bob Sanders -- in his prime he was in top physical shape -- but I seriously doubt he could run almost continuously for 90 minutes, with only a five-minute break in between.

See but football itself was designed for that...the entire name of the game is taking territory from your opponent. And when you take enough of it you get a touchdown. Whereas soccer is more like a basketball in my opinion...it's about scoring something through a goal. It's entirely about putting it through their, not about how much territory you take. That's why I can enjoy defensive slugfests in football (although 6-4 is a little too slugfest for me lol)

Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but your last statement is what Americans tell themselves to feel better about not liking the number one sport in the world. Nothing more, nothing less….I too used to say what you are saying here. I was a boor…..there is a lot more going on then you have addressed in this quick “quipâ€￾!

I mean of all the head in the sand things to say….we now have football players feigning injury to stop the clock! Basketball players have flopped for decades, boxers stall, wrestlers stall and because we don’t like soccer this is the best we can come up with…….hmmmmmm?!~!

Very insightful thoughts and it is back and forth like this, that makes these boards fun. Now I have a different thought for you….I propose soccer is more about possessing the ball and wearing your opponent down to the point their focus, conditioning and defense breaks down. Case in point….One of my sons teams (honestly they have all been suspect on O) have notoriously played very salty, aggressive defense. They also have a couple very athletic, fast forwards. Buuuuttttttt they don’t pass well in spots and they are really a send it deep, chase it down and out run people, type of team….i/e: not classical soccer. They have been in games where the ball sat in their side of the field for ¾’s of the game and the shots on goal was about 25 to 8……..so it is a field position type of game really.

What? People play soccer all over the frickin world. You're telling me every one of those people are in better physical shape than an elite athlete who happens to play football?

I have no idea if Bob Sanders could play soccer, but the running sure as hell wouldn't be the reason why he failed.

Tavian Banks use to say it helped out his foot work for football. I never had an opportunity to play in High school or in any leagues. Just never took off in the small towns when I was a kid.

Now that you mention it I seem to remember that. Also I grew up in Fairfield Iowa. No soccer down there when I was a boy...lol. It’s quite a reversal of training that I consider myself such a huge fan now.

No. The sport is dreadfully dull. Not the individuals themselves.

Well ironically enuff....again, that says more about you than the majority of the world’s population. Not often a person can say that, but it fits nicely here.......:D

Umm, if my opinion is opposite that of a majority of the world's population, then I consider that a GOOD thing, not a bad thing. We'd be a pretty messed up country if our opinions matched those of a majority of the world's population.

Nice try friend, but it ain't trackin....PS...... we are messed up......

I love that the people who are football fans sit around and claim that soccer is too boring. Football contains, in a 60 minute game, 11 minutes of actual action. The guy who claims nothing happens in soccer has no problem wasting 3 hours on a Sunday watching guys literally standing around in between boner commercials.
