Would the NIT be a Disappointing Finish?

Of course we have power here. I just added you to my Ignore (ant) list.

If we go 10-8 and win 1 in the BTT I will be disappointed...with the Selection Committee not the team. I will still get pumped up for the NIT games and watch them and enjoy them and expect to win some...possibly the whole thing. We would be very very tough in any home games awarded.

At this time next year I expect to be in the top 4 or 5 in the conference (possibly ranked) and arguing about our potential NCAA seed. I will be disappointed if the NIT is a possibility...would still watch but be disappointed.

Side Note - I think we should go undefeated at home next year...always have to allow for 1 upset though (see Wisconsin at Indiana). I don't know our conference schedule but believe we could win any road game not played in Michigan...assuming Zeller and Oladipo leave for the NBA. I'm not saying we will win them all but that we could win any of those mentioned. Michigan State is my preseason number 1 without a doubt.

If Iowa goes 10-8, assuming its loss is to Indiana, and doesn't make the tournament, that would be very disappointing. To get to that record, they would have beaten Illinois, who could finish at best at 10-8, as well. If that scenario plays out, and Illinois would get the 6th Big Ten bid but not Iowa, despite Iowa having beaten them, curses on the selection committee. There simply would have to be 7 Big Ten bids at that point. Thus, I don't see Iowa going 10-8 and not getting a bid.

I would be disappointed, but at the same time last year's NIT game was one of the better ones I have been to at Carver. I think mostly because I could get good seats without having to pay too much. Well that and the environment was pretty good that day.

no, because I thought NIT in October

yes, because they're in a position now to go 10-8

just can't see a team going 10-8 in this conference, in any year, and not make the ncaa

I would be disappointed if we don't make the NCAA tourney. I think you are supposed to be disappointed when your team does not make the tourney. I wont be upset with Fran or the players, but an NIT birth should always be disappointing.

Normally I probably would share that sentiment, but I wasn't disappointed with it last year. I was ecstatic. 2 years removed from a 10 win season? Any post season was great.

I would be disappointed in an NIT invite from the perspective that Iowa let so many games slip away late this season, and could easily be sitting solidly ABOVE the bubble and just playing for seed right now. That, and the fact that it's been so long since Iowa has been to the tournament. It would be a bitter pill to swallow.

And if Iowa gets to 10-8 and gets snubbed by the committee I will be pretty ticked off - at the committee (and the RPI), not at the Hawks.

But, I still recognize that progress is being made with this program, so the season itself would not be a failure in my book.

As someone else said, if Iowa ends up in the NIT and loses early, that would be the only way I would truly be disappointed with the finish to this season.

No disappointment unless they lose to teams that they shouldn't and not give themselves the best opportunity to make the NCAA tournament.

NIT not all bad considering how awful Iowa was just a couple of years ago.

For the most part, I have to admit that if you told me in October that the Hawks would make a deep run in the NIT I would have been happy with it. As is so often the case, now that we have a (long) shot at making the Dance, I would be disappointed .. .. but happy none the less. If it's a short run (1 or 2 games), then I'd REALLY be disappointed.

Let's DANCE!!!

GO HAWKS!!!

All the NCAA tournament talk has this forum excited, heck it has me excited. For me growing up through the Lute Olson, Raveling, and Tom Davis years it is great to see Iowa being competitive once again. Coming into this season most of us were wanting to see progress and a lot of us were saying NIT likely but outside chance at NCAA. Here we are 26 games into the season and that is exactly where Iowa sits. We all knew the OOC was soft but understood it was probably best for a young team, now it could potentially cost them a NCAA bid.

But seeing all the NCAA talk I am wondering if we have raised our expectation for this team or are we still going to be alright if we see Iowa on the bubble but end up in the NIT? More than likely Iowa will get to 20 wins, something we have not seen for a while, but I remember seeing previous 20 win teams under Tom Davis get left out of the tournament and this year 21 may not get the job done. This years team has suffered some tough losses, if we flip 1 or 2 of those close games into wins and Iowa is almost a lock for the tournament. That proves Iowa has the talent to play with the top teams but is not experienced enough to finish. To me the basketball program is exactly who we thought they would be, even if they end up in the NIT I am still excited for the future of this program.

How do the rest of you feel?

<No trolling please>

Of course it would be disappointing. It would certainly be disappointing to the team. The selection committee is supposed to take late-season improvement into consideration. Some close losses are to be expected with a team regaining a winning mentality. If we finish strong and are left out, I would be disappointed in the committee, not the team.

Yes...

I refuse to use the yardsticks of "where we were a few years ago" and/or "we're finishing where everybody thought we'd finish" to accept the NIT.

We're good enough, this year, with this team, to be competitive in the NCAAs.

I'd be disappointed for the players simply because had we not lost leads in the final minutes during a very touch conference stretch we'd be in right now. That said it's hard to be disappointed as a fan based on where this team was just a few years ago. They're making great strides and while at the beginning of the year I was only hoping for another NIT season and figured the NCAAs were another year or so off, it hurts to think that we were a few last minute collapses away from being a lock.

Not disappointed in the team but disappointed for the team.

As for me, I want to keep watching this team play. I'd fear that IF by some miracle (or couple wins in the BTT) Hawks get a bid, it will be like a 12 or 13 seed and an embarrassing 1 & done.

Otoh, I think they are legitimately good enough to win a couple against NIT competition, maybe even get to NY. As a fan, I'd enjoy that a lot more.

Next year, I will be VERY disappointed if they don't get a bid.
