Would Mr. Davis had lost the last 2 homes games

if Mr. Davis had one of this better teams facing the same situation? I say he most likely would have won tonight and the MSU game, but had lost the game at OSU, at Illinois, at Michigan (and probably Wisco too).

It is kind of the reverse problem Mr. Davis had imho and maddening Fran is struggling at home in the big games.

The program just can't quite put it all together.

Don't know.... would Bucky O'Connor have??? Or Dr. James Naismith? BTW... it is the 21st Century ... move on already

well yes Tom Davis was a great coach... but we would have had JR Koch and Ryan Luersman out there balling.

I loved the Doctor... but little man just couldn't recruit.

Ravelings players and Davis coaching? = dynasty.

No, but Fran is quickly proving he is NOWHERE near the coach Mr. Davis was.

This was my favorite Mr. Davis end of game coaching. Street tossed it into Acie Earl, who dribbled and launched a 3, but that was just subterfuge to get the ball inside where Street and James Moses had a decided advantage. Davis was a mad scientist.

If Iowa fans today watched that game they would be complaining about AC Earl taking the 3, even though we won the game on the road and down 16. Back then we were just thrilled with the tip in and winning the game.

I wonder if we will ever see that again....:)

Lol....well...Iowa doesn't win games on the last possession...didn't you see the stat? 0-32 in the last 32.

Well, I don't know about these two games, but Mr. Davis lost 2 of the first 3 home games after his team was ranked #1.

This is probably the same crowd now saying how great Mr. Davis was that wanted him out as he didn't get us to the elite level.

Loved the Doctor... solid coach but the Alford/Lickliter years created a perception of the nostalgia in the past that really isn't accurate.

Fran is progressing towards Mr. Davis's "Guess Who?" substitution patterns.

The last two games, we couldn't shoot FG or FTs.
We needed to get the ball inside more.

Didn't see this as a coaching issue, except for substitution patterns.

I loved Mr. Davis...but he's retired so it's irrelevant. No need to live in the past when the present and future look pretty good to me.

I would tend to agree that Mr. Davis wouldn't of lost the last two games, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't of lost a couple of games that Fran has won. Fran really doesn't have a team full of his own recruits. His first year he was trying to sign the Lickliter recruits and then scrambling to sign another guy. After this year all the recruits will be guys he had at least a full year to recruit, and it will be a better indication of his team. To me, Fran is a lot better recruiter, and he is still trying to get his system implemented with his guys. Tom Davis seems to be more innovative, while Fran seems to do the same thing over and over again whether it works or not. Fran is a great coach that is very good at what he does, but I don't think he really has all his players yet. There is a reason coaches work hard at recruiting.

Tom D was a great coach but part of coaching is recruiting... McCaffery all ready way better of a recruiter.

Loved Davis's style and ability to get the most out of his players -

Like I said combine Raveling recruits with Davis coaching = dynasty.
