I like the discussion in this thread. There are a lot of well thought out posts. Somebody mentioned a scenario in which Bob Stoops was hired as the Iowa coach and where would Kirk Ferentz have gone instead of Iowa. How about if Kirk Ferentz had been hired instead of Walt Harris in 1997 at Pittsburgh or if Harris had been fired after a 2-9 campaign in 1998 and Kirk was hired in 1999. Does Ferentz win a National Championship at Pitt or even do as well as he has at Iowa? An interesting intellectual exercise during the off-season.

The argument is moot. He probably wouldn't have gotten hired by any other high division one level football program at that time. A lot of Iowa fans were not happy with that hire at the time.
