Would have BF been let go this week but for the fair catch call?

Kirk…is that you? Absolutely none of this has to do with the record
I was just responding to the poster about being 7-1 had the bad call not been made.

I'm happy Bf will be gone, would be even happier if the O-line coach goes and sadly would eventually be happy if KF hangs them up.

Time for a more modern type of offensive football.

Retain Phil Parker at all costs at this point.

Here’s a question for everyone. We win out, win the West AND do the unthinkable………… upset the East champ. Does that change anything. Would Kirk give Beth the finger and leave for greener pasture
Is it in Heaven, good Lord you think he's going to leave Iowa for Alabama when Sabin retires? Tell me the fanbase screaming out for this coach? I hope with a little luck and skill Iowa finds itself in Indy and pulls that awesome upset but it doesn't rewrite the last two and 1/2 miserable years of offense, QB's, and O-line. Brian is a National figurehead for memes, roasts, and jokes, all at the expense of Iowa. This move was unavoidable and I wish it had been immediate. We could at least be complaining about a interim coach than.

I might be a little hard on posters today but really? Lamenting this unavoidable decision that gives Iowa a chance to at least slow down the Portal stampede on offense and salvage out recruits had to be done. I'm just glad that Beth had the grapes to make the move, which is a lot better than I can say about the AD who proceeded her.

I am sure recruiting and donors were at the top of Beth's lists as far as timing was concerned.

I sure hope that McNamara had no role in this decision. Nice kid, but you don't plan coaching changes around a kid who can't stay on the field.
Nobody is listening to McNamara on a decision like this. The future of Iowa football doesn’t depend on one year with an average qb. The fat cat donors made this happen.

Athletic Donor’s: They are given too much attention, credit, blame, power, influence, by many on HN. The University of Iowa is a hell of a lot bigger than the athletic program. And, I would speculate that 2/3 of Iowan’s don’t even know who the AD is, don’t give a flying F… who wins or loses football and basketball games and wrestling meets.

Furthermore, the assumption that KF does not recognize the U if I power structure and that he is in no way bullet proof underestimates his intelligence.

GB was also fully aware of his limitations and bailed out before he was hung out to dry. History will show that what GB accomplished was astounding. His biggest error was not losing lawsuits. It was trusting the legal advice he was given. Very common error BTW.

The AD and the U of I president pulled rank and fired BF. KF had no say in the matter. I saw numerous posts on HN claiming KF was bullet proof due to big donor support. Now the worm has turned and those same fools claim the big donors told the President, the AD, and probably the Regents to fire BF. Good grief! Talk about hypocrisy. Ha Ha…you have no idea.

The U of I is a powerful influence in the State’s economy and receives countless millions of dollars from donor‘s who could likely buy and sell the athletic zealots just for fun. Given the reality of the importance of $$ to the University, the Athletic program is a handy PR tool. Ask yourself this: What would happen to the U of I if sports were terminated? Yeah, not much.

Sorry do you really think with what we’ve seen so far we could upset the East Champ?! I’d bet we lose to NW this Saturday by 10… bye week didn’t give Brain that extra time to figure it out… shit whole off season and first 8 games didn’t. We would/will get absolutely destroyed by Mich or OSU. As far as Kirk goes I think the only greener pasture would be retirement, he’s not going to another school to start from scratch

I think if Iowa won a B1G title game this year, it would create a chain reaction of improbable events.

To answer your first question. No. My point is that, if that miraculously happened it would throw a monkey ranch into every thing.

No

At the end of the season? My answer would be ‘yes’.

No is the correct answer

If the return stood, we would have a 7-1 record

He would be gone after the season anyway

The record is the bottom line

Believe The Captain would retire before coaching at another school

Nobody in America thinks we would beat
Ohio State or Michigan in football this century

This and common sense. Any person, from any background, IQ of 70 on up, AD or not could easily look at the results and make this decision. Rocket scientists need not apply

It's impossible to know the answer since we do not know if Minnesota would have been able to score in the last two minutes after Iowa kicked off. What we do know is Iowa had plenty of time and time outs to go 20 yards in order to try a field goal from around the Minnesota 35. Those last three Iowa offensive plays were the culmination of everything thing wrong with the offense. They exposed Iowa had no FBS QB, a deficient line, and a coordinator unable to call plays in a critical moment. It is only an "IF" since we will never know how Minnesota would have responded.
That's sort of my point. The unbelievably shit call by the refs both caused the loss and exposed even further offensive futility. But for that puke call, Iowa wins the game and I don't think she does what she does. Not at 7-1 and Top 20.

And, Minnesota would not have scored. Their offense was near as bad as ours. No fucking way they drive the field against that D.

This is about so much more than a botched call in the Minnesota game.

The interim AD, that title needs to be just AD very soon, has been around long enough at Iowa to know BF was not the answer to the offense. This was a culmination of the last 1 and 3/4 years and being one of the worst offenses in D1 football.

If not for his dad, BF would not be the OC at any other school. Said it before and will say it again. KF is 100% at fault for this hire. Barta allowing it was pure incompetence as well. Of course emotionally this has to be difficult for KF, but he put his son in a bad spot. Again, KF owns this one.

The bottom line is BG stood up to KF and GB never did. That's what was needed at Iowa. I also am sure the big donors finally realized Iowa was being laughed at from all corners of the college football world. The timing worked out for BG.
I don't disagree that this is much bigger than one play or one game. Its just an interesting intellectual exercise. That return stands, BF's offense does not have to go out there one last time and stink it up, the D holds, Iowa wins, 7-1, Ranked 19. How do you make such an announcement after all that? One could argue it would be a dumb move to upset the apple cart in the middle of a heater.

No one is arguing BF does not need to go. But, those special ed refs accelerated the process, IMHO.

Good thought exercise. No way in hell Brian gets fired if we don't get jobbed out of that Minnesota game.

Correct me if I'm wrong - been so much chatter - but didn't you post you thought KF would leave at end of season, anyway?

I've been of the opinion the KF / BF package would stay together ... If BF had to go - contractually or otherwise - after this 3rd strike of a season, KF would too. For all his football warts, KF is class and integrity and it was always hard for me to see him 1) throw his kid under the bus and 2) stick around if his kid got run over by a bus he wasn't driving.

Obvious to me, Pops was fuming inside during that presser. Understandable. However, the reckoning has been forced upon him and I think he'll hang it up too.

I actually see it as a positive for KF.
- Pressure's off (which may have been a distraction?).
- He didn't "have to" fire his kid (and in doing so, "admit" the huge mistake he made promoting him).
- He can go out on a typical KF positive note:
-- A 2nd West title in 3 years. (And the final one!) Sorry, no way they upset the East ;-)
-- Another in a long line of upper tier bowl games. Very possibly a win.
-- He leaves a remarkable legacy, which, in the long-run, is what he'll be revered for.
-- His successor inherits a very solid program with huge support (and patience), abundant resources and a very long leash.

I also revert back to KF's indisputable class and integrity. While he (and the fam) might feel a little jilted, now, they are also wired with accountability and character. They would NEVER burn it down.

Finally, I simply refuse to buy the "get ready for losing seasons if KF leaves" mindset. I haven't for most of the last decade during which I've wanted KF to move on. See all the foundational reasons noted above. It truly surprises me to hear so many of the Pollyanna types on the board suddenly go as fetal as a Kirk Ferentz 2-minute drive with a 7 point lead at the thought of him leaving ... change ... EEEEK, Iowa football Armageddon!

Sure, it will be some transition, but I've never been able to fathom that, in the entirety of college football, there is not another soul who could come to Iowa and continue this 40-year run??

If Kirk left and voided the rest of his contract and it was because of Beth we should build her a statue.

You are correct in the "exposure" of Iowa's Offensive ineptitude. I think D would've done exactly what they did the series before ... stuff Minny on 3 and out.
