Would Big 12 Expansion End Series with ISU?

I've not seen it discussed here but would or could Big 12 expansion end the series with ISU? Some of the frequently mentioned candidates; ie Houston, BYU, and Cincinnati are not going to make it easier for ISU to have football success. Based on the recent AP story that Iowa was rated 25th best program over the past 80 years you would think that the AD would want to lighten the non-conference schedule.

Along with the addition of two teams of more strength than ISU is the making of accommodations for them, possibly conference games earlier in the season, ie games 2 and 3 . Do not be surprised that the series may end prematurely.

The larger problem is that with a 9 game conference schedule and the desire to keep a 7 game home schedule, there is room for 1 power 5 home-away series. Is Iowa St. the best use for this very limited series?

It is a game with limited national draw. From a rating standpoint, Iowa is expected to win so it gets nothing from it. Iowa is punished when it looses.

It's time to drop ISU from the Hawks schedule. I'm fine with playing them 2 out of 8 years, but I want to see Iowa play some different teams as well,

I think your question is would Iowa State want to drop the Iowa game to lighten their schedule (I'm guessing to get bowl eligible easier)? From the perspective the answer is absolutely not. That game is huge to Iowa State in a lot of ways.

On the flip side there's almost zero positives that ever come out of it for the Hawkeyes. If you win congrats you beat one of the weakest FBS schools. If you lose it you get punished hard from it and your players/coaches/fans hear about it non stop from the ISU fans...even Lazard had the balls to call out Iowa's 12-0 season last year.

Id much rather have Iowa drop the ISU game and do a neutral site game against a major opponent. A Stoops vs Ferentz game would have intrigue, a Iowa/Texas game would do well for Iowa's recruiting in Texas, etc. Even though its a lot more likely to lose that game than it is to lose vs the Cyclones, who cares? Look at what Wisconsin beating LSU did for the Badgers on the national scene. Same with Houston beating Oklahoma.

Quit legitimizing those clowns with this game. We need to be playing some new teams to help our exposure. Nobody gives a **** about this game outside of Iowa. But a home and home with an SEC or PAC team? Now you got something.

Personally I would like to see 2 years on, 2 years off rotation. That way we could schedule a different P5 team, then they could benefit by lightening their schedule and perhaps try to build to a middle of the pack Big 12 team.

The short answer is no. Big12 expansion will not encourage Iowa State or Iowa to drop each other from their schedule.

The number of conference games will not go up, and could even possibly go down to 8 games. But most likely it will stay at 9 games. ISU's schedule will not get any harder.

Now if ever Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas leave the Big12 and the Big12 loses its status as a Power conference, then that gets tricky for Iowa. The BigTen mandates that each team play at least 1 power conference team OOC each year. With that requirement, it would be hard to maintain a home and away series with Iowa State every year. But my guess is the BigTen would grant an exception to Iowa to count Iowa State as its 1 power ooc game.

there is a lot of hype for this game but since I have watched them all since the restart I have to say it is a bore, a yawn. I would love to see new home and home Games against Missouri, other big 12 or other P5 teams. younger people maybe get jazzed for this game but I think long time fand would like to see some new teams. play Isu 2 out of 8 or 10 years.

Welp, they decided not to expand. I'm sure too many top schools were knocking down the door and they couldn't decide, so they're staying at 10.

Once the Big 12 dissolves and ISU ends up in the MAC I just can't see us keeping the annual rivalry.

The Big12 is dead, the only questions left is who scavenged what off that dead carcus.

WVU and Notre Dame to the ACC

Kansas and Texas to the B1G

Oklahoma and Okie st to the SEC

The only question is who does the Pac12 take? I don't really see any of Baylor, TCU, Tech, KSU or ISU fitting in the Pac12

ISU is going to the MAC next....That is the main reason they targeted a MAC coach. They want to be prepared for the conference season.

This looks good but do you really think the SEC would take OSU? I can see SEC taking OU but I think they would want to expand their midwest footprint if they were to take a 2nd one.

Even if this happened I think there would be enough decent football programs to keep the B12 alive or for another conference to reemerge, the remaining teams you listed would make a respectable football conference. Add in BYU, Houston, and a couple of others and maybe they could keep a power 5 status? The B12 losing Texas would be a devastating blow.

It would completely depend on what happens with the other teams. If OU, OSU, UT, KU, all leave, there just isn't that much meat left on the bone. They would definitely command less eyeballs and wouldn't be power 5, but would be somewhere around AAC level. Depending on what their contracts look like, they could grab teams like BYU, Cincy, UConn, and Houston to replace them.
