Worst feeling on this forum for a 7-2 team; beat Minny, Illini, and Nebby like last year

There is very little traffic here as people have jumped off the wagon and maybe cant find much positive to say. I did like that the hawks should have and did gouge jNW for some really nice runs, big chunk runs. It seemed the left side of the line must have found some good combo blocking and blocks to the 2nd level which I could see between Linderbaum and Schott. Opponents usually shut that down after a few plays so definitely need to get this action all along the OLine front.

If Iowa can win 3 more and if OSU can beat Purdue (and MSU's pass defense, which I heard was not great, gave up over 500 yards passing to Purdue) then Iowa will have 2 losses, Minny 3 losses and on the bad side of the tiebreaker with Iowa, Purdue will have 3 losses, and then hawk fans will have to hope Minny can beat Wisky again like in 2019.

But if the hawks can reduce Minny's offense to what they were yesterday then I like our chances this weekend. If Petras starts he has to be on target from the get go or go to Padilla.

Unlikely, but we can hope Nebraska can pull the upset against Wisconsin as well. Perhaps they have the offense to give them problems. Then again, Nebraska just can't put it all together.

When we were 6 and 0 and even when we were 6 and 1 I was itching to get to the BIG championship game. Now I’m not so sure that would be a good thing. Don’t get me wrong I don’t want the Hawks to lose but I’m not sure that playing OSU with the way we’re playing now is something I want to go through. The Hawks had a different feel about them during the first part of the season. It was still obvious that our offense had issues but it felt like the defense and special teams could overcome our deficiencies. The Purdue and Northwestern games took most of my confidence on our defense being able to overcome the offensive problems. There’s a reason people have jumped ship. This team doesn’t feel the same. Hopefully they turn it around. Go Hawks

A 10-2 Iowa this year likely lands Iowa, at the very least, in an upper mid-tier bowl (like Citrus or Outback). If no West Title, Iowa will have a bunch of wins, but no title to show for.

It would feel like a 9 or 8 win season on steroids.

IMHO, Iowa would need one hell of an opponent in said upper mid-tier bowl to get us all excited about the end of this year. And then need to beat said opponent. Like an Alabama or Texas A&M.

A Missouri, Georgia Tech like opponent does zero for excitement.

A 10+ win year historically is a very good year for Iowa. Technically I would agree this year would be no different. But it would feel like the most hollow 10 win year ever without a West Title. It would also feel like another big missed opportunity that we yet again surrendered to Wisconsin. Yuck. Puke. Vomit.

And, getting to 10 wins is still a BIG if......last year I felt confident Iowa would take care of business to end the year.

Minnesota game is looking more manageable, but if capable Minny shows up it will be a battle.

Illinois under Bielema playing at it's best ball can beat us in Kinnick.

Nebraska can beat us if they don't self-destruct. They are doing a lot of things right except the biggest thing of winning the game.

The Iowa offense under Padilla definitely had more life, but still looked like a broken offense.....especially when it was handcuffed by the Ferentz play-calling in the 2nd half. And, this was against one of the worse defenses (if not the worse) we have played all year. This does not give me the warm and fuzzies for these remaining three games.

This brings up a good question. Why do we seemingly have so many fans (attendance and travel well) buy Iowa’s online presence sucks? This is one of the biggest hawkeye boards and nobody is on it. Reddit threads for hawkeye games have single digit messages.

Yes, Nebby has a bye week but I give them slim chances to beat Wisky because Nebby just self destructs and is not a very solidly coached team. If Nebby plays perfect, plugs all the holes and doesnt give up big plays and Martinez goes off passing and running yes they could beat Wisky.

Interesting as I only look at HawkNation to read your findings. Maybe it is the less exciting way Kirk's formula creates winning teams.

As they mentioned on the radio and on the BTN postgame, Iowa is third in the Big 10 with 60 wins (only one behind wisky and osu it was said) for 6 seasons of 2015 thru 2020. It is amazing and you would think Iowa would be talked about as a top 15 team annually.

Once again the “Yuck, Puke, Vomit” as stated comes back to the same damn thing every year. Season after season, for well over a decade now……….” The Offense”

Why hasn’t wholesale changes been made in regards to this. At least try for God sales.

Stubbornness? Pride? Bad ancestor gene path?

I am ok with the defense (minus the Purdue brain fart of not double teaming) special teams, even some offensive positions where we have been very successful in the past (tight ends, offensive lineman) but the offensive play designs and philosophy have hindered this program to a fault.

This is why I get so pissed off and critical. It’s the ten thousand pound gorilla in the China room. Damn it Kirk try something else. Have a little compassion on your fan base.

The game thread went 51 pages. That's not bad traffic.

Wisconsin's radio people were talking yesterday about how Martinez gives their defense fits.

Problem is Wisconsin usually runs the ball down Debby's throat.

Kirk is so deathly afraid of turnovers when he has the lead late that I think he would rather have his defense on the field.

It worked for Chuck Noll, and for that matter Hayden in 1981. It's not popular or aesthetically pleasing but a) it works more often than not and b) Kirk doesnt care what we think and I think some on here somehow take that personally.

HawkeyeReport is by far and away the biggest Hawkeye forum online. Pretty much always has been.

If Nebraska can put it together, I hope it's against Wisconsin, and ONLY Wisconsin. Remember when Illinois upset Wisconsin in 2019? Sometimes these things happen.

Reddit is an absolute cesspool that I wouldn't recommend to anyone that doesn't like Pol Pot, has a job, or is over the age of 15 and a half, but r/CFB tends to have pretty active game threads for Iowa.

I think we can win out. I would give us above .500 odds. Nebraska is the game I am most afraid of, but hopefully, their spirits are broken by then given Frost's imminent beheading.

I think Nebraska is the best shot for Wisky to lose. Nebbie has a bye this week. They have a very good defense that should hold Wisky in check. Their offense has a better shot at moving the ball because of Martinez. No team in the world is more due for some luck than these hapless Cornshuckers.

If we do win out, and so does Wisky, and Wisky loses to OSU, and OSU makes the playoffs, could we make the Rose Bowl??????
