(edit) Poll question: Were the eye pokes by Woody intentional?(edit)

I don't wanna start another thread for discussion cause there already is one, but I'm curious about people's views on last night's unfortunate situation.

Thug play. Needs to be suspended. If I were Delany, it would be for the rest of the season. Injuries are prevalent enough without that crap.

See, considering your post history, it's hard to take your opinion with anything other than a huge grain of salt.

I'm serious. There are a lot of things that I'm willing to over look but messing with someone's vision could have life long consequences. I wasn't as hard on McCabe's hip toss.

I'm well aware that you're serious. But you've got a long history of bashing Woodbury and I think that's clouding your judgement here. The first one, which was the only one that could have caused an injury, was accidental. The second one, while stupid, he barely even touched Kaminsky's eye. Kaminsky was practically laughing about it both on the floor and in the postgame. Bush league, yes. "Gutless" or "cowardly", as Dakich said? No.

Here's the video if anyone needs it.

The Hayes one I'm not sure about, I dont think anyone could accurately poke someone in the eye while taking one quick stab while the other player is on a ball fake/drive.

The kaminski one...why the hell was he petting him in the head in the first place? He obviously was doing that intentionally, and then he reached back in and poke him in the eye. Woody was obviously trying to do SOMETHING there. Whether it was poke him in the eye or not I'm not sure, but when you combine both of the Hayes AND Kaminski ones together in the same game can it really be completely coincidental?

Having watched the video, I have to say both were intentional. I would be in support of a formal suspension if the powers that be deem in necessary. At the bare minimum, I would hope Fran would give him a very stern talk to knock it off - at best, it looks embarrassing for both Woody & the program...at worst, it is a very dangerous thing to do.

On a lighter note, I would also support someone making a gif where the clips of Woody's eye pokes are juxtaposed with Three Stooges clips - nyuk, nyuk, nyuk! Why I oughta...!!! Etc

The Hayes one, taken on its own, I might have *possibly* considered excusing as Hayes does seem to make a bit of a head move at roughly the same time Woody reaches his arm out...but with the added context of how comically blatant the one against Kaminsky is (he missed on the first one and tried again!), I start to see intent in the Hayes one, too. I don't think it was coincidence Woody has his fingers pointing at the guy at eye level. When you are defending the ball in basketball, with your hands you are either trying to block his line of sight (in which case you would want to go palm out to make your hand as much as a visual nuisance as possible) or cutting off passing options (which, again, encourages keeping your hands palm out relative to the defender so as to make them as big as possible).

Really, in a defensive situation like that, the only time I would be stabbing forward with my hands fingers first is if I was going for a steal (which Woody is clearly not doing in either video). I say guilty. At the bare minimum, KNOCK IT OFF and accept any punishment coming your way.

That's not true. I think you have me confused with someone else. I have gone on record as wanting Gabe to start and play more minutes but I have always understood that Woodbury brings stuff to the court. He's physical in the post. He battles inside and plays defense. He's also shown a nice mid range shot this year. There are many positives to his game as there are negatives.

Agree 100%. I never even gave the Hayes eye poke a second thought because it can happen, especially when a player leans forward to put the ball on the deck. The second one with FK made me view the Hayes incident in a different light.

And it shouldn't have.

After re-watching I have changed my position. The first was likely accidental, the second was a fit a frustration/lack of discipline on the second. Problem is the two together appear to provide evidence for the "thug" case, which I don't believe to be accurate.

Based on the video, the first one, to me, looked accidental - He was just reaching out as defensive players are prone to do. The second one on Kaminsky looked very intentional to me. So I voted one accidental, one intentional.

I dont think the Hayes one was intentional. He is sticking his hand up as Hayes is making a basketball move.

I just laugh at the 2nd one. Why was he petting him on top of the head? I dont get that move at all. He hit him in the eye with his ring finger. who pokes someone else with a ring finger?

Someone who's not so much intentionally poking an eye as they are intentionally rubbing their hand in someone's face in general. Woodbury was just ******* with Kaminsky, and looked stupid. Kaminsky laughed it off in the postgame and could hardly believe it on the court.
