I think Woody's production on offense relies on Fran's willingness to run set post plays for him. We haven't seen much of that as Fran likes to push the ball and set a lot of screens for the perimeter players in the half court. I've been saying it for over a year now but giving Woody some post iso opportunities every once in awhile could do wonders for the team's half court scoring slumps. Woody has some nice post moves when he isn't getting pressured by multiple defenders. Give the guy some space and let him go to work. I'm not saying it has to be used a lot but would give the defense a different look besides the normal motion looks Fran uses.
Woody improved greatly from his freshman to sophomore year. Big men typically take longer to develop. I think we'll be very happy with him the next two years.

Meh. Not so sure about that. I definitely wouldn't say greatly.

And Tennessee's NBA prospect, Stokes, also disappeared while defending Woody. As I recall, in our NC2A playoff game, Woody kept us in it vs TENN
& our NBA player disappeared. Just sayin....................
We need a couple of low post options that can score the basketball and get other bigs in foul trouble. I'm hoping White is developing a post game also, but Woodbury and Olesani need to be a threat with their backs to the basket...if they are and they can shoot a high percentage down low...it's puts a lot more pressure on the defense. We haven't had a consistent post game in Fran's tenure. Time to start.

Woody still has to prove he can be a force down low.
My biggest gripe with Woody is his tendency to lose his composure right when he's going up for what should be a gimmie shot. Every once in awhile he shows great touch for a big man, and then other times he launches the ball off of the backboard like a tall 6th grader who hasn't grown into his body.
I'd be satisfied if he could just become more consistent offensively. If he could consistently hit the easy shots that he gets then he could pretty easily reach a double double each time out. I love his grit. I love his energy. That's what you want to see in a big man. He just needs to corral it a bit in order to make more of an impact.
Woody is the kind of player who only has to improve a little to improve his stats allot. I had a chance to talk to Fran and I asked him who the most improved player was from last year and he said Woody without hesitation.
I think he will be one of the major reasons we are better this year than last and his senior year he will be a beast.
Frank Kaminsky at Wisconsin was a scrub his first two seasons, putting up worse numbers than Woody did his first two at Iowa. Big men take time, although Kaminsky and Woody are very different players, the Tennessee game showed Woody has the post moves, he just needs to find his spots and be confident going up with the ball. Not too many players an contend with 7'1" and >250 lbs, whatever he's at this year. Saw some photos of him this summer where he was looking like a freakin' red wood.
