Its good when your star players that were freshmen and sophomores become juniors and seniors. I'm going to enjoy watching White go against another teams freshmen or sophomores. Experience and lifting weights for two or three years should make a lot of difference.

I am pretty excited overall to watch this team this season. I'm interested to see the new pieces we added and also the progress made by the returning players. It should be a fun year.
 
White has always been excellent in the open floor, tough roaming the baseline against a zone D, and nifty on the offensive glass. The next level for his game will be not to disappear in the half court offense. He has the ability to put the ball on the floor which gets him to the free throw line. Will he spend more time on the block as a 4? will his midrange improve enough that people don't sag off taking away his drive? That and the ability to move his feet laterally on defense are what make the difference in him being a very good basketball player and a great one. Playing the 3 didn't set him up for success in the half court offense.

I believe Woody's biggest growth will come not in offensive confidence, but rather the ability to stay out of foul trouble so he can stay on the floor. I feel he has more skills than some think, just the propensity to foul keeps him on the bench for protracted minutes. He is exposed on D a bit when he gets too far from the basket defending pick and rolls, although I was surprised that he wasn't taken off the dribble more by guards when he hedged so far out to the side to defend the pick and roll.
 
Woody will be a force... I just can't decide if that will be next year or his senior year when he makes that step.

Woodbury, White, and probably the rest of the team has to be influenced by the fact Marble is in the NBA now considering how he was looked on after his sophomore and junior years. Hopefully, it will give the team a lot of confidence.

I think Woody's production on offense relies on Fran's willingness to run set post plays for him. We haven't seen much of that as Fran likes to push the ball and set a lot of screens for the perimeter players in the half court. I've been saying it for over a year now but giving Woody some post iso opportunities every once in awhile could do wonders for the team's half court scoring slumps. Woody has some nice post moves when he isn't getting pressured by multiple defenders. Give the guy some space and let him go to work. I'm not saying it has to be used a lot but would give the defense a different look besides the normal motion looks Fran uses.
 
Hopefully Woody has the strength this year to start dominating the paint. I know a lot of us had hopes that he'd turn into a Jeff Withey type player, either way this is definitely the year we'll notice if it's happening or not.

We do have the experience, Tierney, should make for a very interesting season.....

Woody improved greatly from his freshman to sophomore year. Big men typically take longer to develop. I think we'll be very happy with him the next two years.

I agree, this year should be his coming out year and set him up nicely for next year as one of the premier big men in the B1G.
 
We need a couple of low post options that can score the basketball and get other bigs in foul trouble. I'm hoping White is developing a post game also, but Woodbury and Olesani need to be a threat with their backs to the basket...if they are and they can shoot a high percentage down low...it's puts a lot more pressure on the defense. We haven't had a consistent post game in Fran's tenure. Time to start.

As I recall, in our NC2A playoff game, Woody kept us in it vs TENN
& our NBA player disappeared. Just sayin....................
