Woodbury offered by Kansas?

There is a post on another site that says that according to a twitter post that Kansas has offered Woodbury. Going to make it tougher for him to pick the Hawks if true, but I am hoping his heart is with the Hawkeyes.

Hopefully, while on a visit, Bill Self's toupe` will meet with a gust of wind and A&W will die laughing and realize he can't watch that over and over again for 4 or 5 years...

Rumor in Iowa City last week was he got at least two big time offers and him coming to Iowa is a long shot. FWIW

I truly believe that Olaseni will make us not care one bit about not getting Woody if that is indeed what ends up happening.

Saw a post on CyFan that he was also offered by OSU today as well. Don't know how credible that is though.

In the interview he was pretty clear that OSU, KU and NC along with Iowa and Minnesota were this top 5. He also stated at the time of the interview that KU had not offered yet. The kid is 7' tall and has basketball skills. I would expect his final offer list to be include most of the top programs nationally but most won't spend time recruiting him.

Good one, Busabus, strangely enough I heard the same rumor. Thought it was just a drunkard's dream. Perhaps not. Thing about Kansas is that lately they can't beat mid-major teams in the NCAA tournament. Last year UNI beat them when they were the overwhelming favorite to win it all, and this year Virginia Commenwealth beat them by ten. They can't even beat the Hawks on their own floor with Roy Williams coaching. They didn't win a championship with LaFrentz or with Collison and Heinrich. With all of that going against them, they still might be able to sign Woodbury if they offer. Hard to believe. :)

I have a feeling that if we are ever going to take a recruit away from Kansas, Woodbury is the one. Hard to blame him if he goes to Lawrence, and it would be hard to turn down a visit. There is a certain amount of prestige about Kansas. However that doesn't mean he is not going to be a Hawkeye. Hope springs eternal. Some will be pleased if he goes, many will be disappointed if not devastated. I would like to see him play for Iowa, but if he doesn't, I have a strong feeling that Fran will find someone else just as good if not better.

It would be huge if he becomes a Hawkeye. Many believe he will be the recruit to turn things around and open the door for elite recruits to enter. Perhaps so. It certainly would not hurt to have him on the team.

Maybe he is one of those who will remain loyal to the State, like Josh. He and his parents are longtime Hawkeye fans after all. It is only a matter of time before quality recruits will want to play for Fran at Iowa, and become a part of the Hawkeye renaissance under Fran's leadership. We shall see.

FWIW, there are strong rumors around these parts that he was to major in pre-med, so that helps iowa out a lot. don't honestly know what kansas has in that regard, so i can't comment on that.

It's going to take a kid who is willing to stick his neck out a little bit, and not be persuaded by the the safety and security of an established program. I think it would be cool to be in on the ground floor of turning a program around, instead of another cog in a basketball machine. Plus, if you're any good, you'll get noticed by the pros, where ever you end up. Hopefully Woodbury has that same type of thinking, because that is what it will take.

Kids Woodbury's age, 17 or so, have grown up in a time where Iowa basketball has been on the periphery of even being relative. In fact, far more often than not over the past decade, they haven't been, having been to just three NCAA tournaments and not one since 17 year old's were 12.

So the draw to go play for the Hawks isn't what it used to be when I was a kid, back in the late 70's and throughout the 80's.

Sioux City isn't exactly right next door to Iowa, and Iowa has lost a couple of Cedar Rapids kids to a program that has been very relevant during the last decade, which is Wisconsin.

If Iowa lands a player of Woodbury's ability right now, whether or not that kid has an Iowa zip code, it will be a significant upset. They are going to have to take the dirt road to get back to relevance, and then you will have a better chance of getting higher rated kids from your own state.

So a kid who grew up as a huge Hawkeye fan would be an upset if he went to Iowa? Can you make an excuse for anything Iowa related?

First off, don't even get me started about rumors and Iowa City.

Second, I still say Woodbury will be a Hawk.

For those of you who think Woodbury will be a hawk what are your thoughts on when he will commit?

I think if he doesnt announce he is going to Iowa by the end of the summer then he is most likely going somewhere else

Catch 22 The only way Woodbury becomes the type of recruit that opens the gates to the types of players Iowa needs is if he gets all the big offers. However, that makes him less likely to come to Iowa.

But if you don't get him. It might be time to just forget the whole state. The kids that are good enough for D1, are too stuck up to come here. The ones that will come here are not good enough to compete. Also, WTF did Iowa do that AAU coach? Dude hasn't helped the hawks at all. Seriously, does any state have a worse situation with their In-State AAU program with respect to recruiting than Iowa?

How's that an excuse? It's reality...Harrison Barnes grew up a Clone fan, where's he playing his ball?

OK...I'm going to work my magic here. I definitely predict that Woodbury will not sign on with the Hawks. I made the same prediction in regard to Hubbard and Olaseni. You guys can thank me later.
