Woodbury moving up ESPN's top 100 rankings

From Rivals. Also a blurb about "Woodbury talks recruiting, UNC on tarheelillustrated.com, but it is pay per view.

Less than two months ago, Hank Huddleson and his All-Iowa Attack group weren't quite sure what the future held. The group was without any shoe company backing and unsure of exactly which events it would be hitting.

In late March, the group played its way into Nike's EYBL by advancing to the finals of the EYBL qualifier, along with MoKan Elite, in Indianapolis. At 7-3, Iowa is playing very well through two sessions of EYBL play. Now, the group can add 17U champions of the Spiece Run-N-Slam to the list of pre-summer accomplishments.

It's a group of guys that has, for the most part, played together for a while and isn't lacking in talent. Point guard Marcus Paige is headed to North Carolina and is among the top players nationally at his position. But, he's not the only high-level prospect as 7-footer Adam Woodbury, wing Kale Abrahamson and combo guard Mike Gesell are all being tracked and offered by high-major programs.

Throw in solid role players Mading Thok, Daniel Jansen and Jerel Moore, and you've got a team that is built to have success on the grassroots circuit.

I would rather Iowa get him than UNC. If Roy pulls one more recruit from this state with his greezy recruiting, I may have to puncture his tires.

I wish, for once, that an Iowa kid would see a great opportunity to help Iowa (or hell, even Iowa State at this point...) get back to prominence - rather than deciding he might earn a couple extra mil in the NBA by going to a glamor school.

Because you know, making $80M is chump change compared to making $100M.

There's just too much money in pro sports.

I don't blame Iowa kids signing with Roy because of the way everyone else kisses his *ss everytime he swoops down. Seriously people, this guy continues to pillage the state and Iowans just keep rolling out the red carpet.

They should just change the name of the state to France.

How sweet would it be to see Woodbury go to UNC and help a team that would be 1/4 Iowans win a title...how sweet indeed...makes me a little misty eyed just thinkin' about it...go get'em, Roy...

This has to be the worst argument that I have ever read. Are you trying to push the kid to UNC? Are you Roy Williams, by chance?

There is a rumor on the scout site that Woodbury was at the Sioux City I-Club banquet last night. Fran was one of the speakers.

Absolutely, HawkeyeShane, there is an upside to Roy pilfering the State. Iowa glory on behalf of the Tarheels. It is irritating to lose so many elite players to that Snakeoil Salesman. I realize that the recruits have the right to choose where they go, having their own personal best interests in mind, but it would be nice to show some loyalty to the State of Iowa sometime. Josh Oglesby might have been the most important recruit we have obtained. He broke the trend of quality recruits leaving Iowa. He is also a Hawkeye diplomat, selling the program to Woodbury and selling it to Jok when he was sitting next to him at a preseason practice last year.

I don't like Roy, but I don't see him as a snakeoil salesman. He has a great program to sell, and he sells it. Seems legit to me.

You are correct, Hawkstrat. Still is somewhat painful to lose so many players to him. He does have the rest of America to mine for recruiting gold. The Tarheels might be the top team next year, cutting down the nets in March.

The number one trait of a snakeoil salesman is to convince people he's not a snakeoil salesman. Don't fall for his bs. He's raiding Iowa's talent pool, and using his past successes here as a platform to try to steal future talent. However, I think Fran is the antidote to future shenanigans from RoyBoy.

This makes zero sense. Why shouldn't he recruit out of state players?

Where did I state that he shouldn't try to recruit out of state players? It's not about what he should or shouldn't do. You must have mis-read my post.

Maybe I'm just confused then, but when you said:

I took that to mean that he was a snake oil salesman because he was trying to recruit basketball talent away from Iowa.

In retrospect, I don't know where I could have possibly gotten that impression.
