Woodbury has regressed

Gabe is out there to work on things. His playing time will most likely go down unless things start to slow down in his head. I dont think we will see Gabe or Woody in at the end of games and we will see woody mostly until he gets into foul trouble. I think with Uthoff being a good defender and very good inside that will take time away from the big men against some teams.
Woody and Gabe playing to the end of games allowed Iowa to go deep in the NIT.

Woody was hardly ever playing at the end of game last year. He was either in foul trouble or we were in a position where we didn't want teams putting him at the line.

Pretty tough to say that before Uthoff has spent any time playing center. Just because you think McCabe sucked at it doesn't mean he wasn't better than Uthoff would be.

I was referencing McCabe only, but now seeing Uthoff more, I would say he would be. Should be the first guy off the bench.

For the record, McCabe did suck at it.

Woody looked terrible tonight. He is clumsy and slow! Painful to watch. If he was 4 inches shorter he'd have to buy a ticket to see the games.

Just reading this last page I'm seeing comments about Uthoff playing center. I love Uthoff's game, and he's one of our best players, but no way should he be playing center. He's still pretty skinny, and he would get dominated down low by someone like Payne or McGary.

Yes, we have seen Iowa try and play undersized guys at Center before against bigger teams and well, it went over like a turd in a punch bowl. The thing is, there is zero reason for Iowa to even consider it at this point.

Anyone other than Woodbury, Olaseni playing there means big time foul problems for the both of them, or simply Iowa matching up against a smaller team.

Were you at the game or watching it on TV? I was there. Woody did a LOT of things very well. He had some really nice passes from the high post to the low post that were fumbled by both Basabe and White. He got some crucial rebounds. He didn't block any shots but altered many. He led the team in rebounds and didn't have a turnover. And some of the picks he set were awesome. A lot of these things aren't seen when the game is watched on TV because the camera tends to follow the ball and most of Woody's work is done off the ball.

Next you'll be telling me Gabe had a better game. Yeah, he made the highlight reel with dunks and blocks. But being out of position defensively about 75% of the time and 3 turnovers just doesn't cut it. If your guards are contesting out front, you can't have your bigs out of position or you give up easy shots.

Agree.

In keeping with the OP's original post....the items you listed...was Woody doing them as well, less effectively, or better, than a year ago.

That's the "regression" question we're trying to answer I guess.

This is getting to be too much. People have made their thoughts known, even if I entirely disagree. We're not gonna keep this thread going as it's turned into grown men trying to prove they know something by bashing a 19 year old. We're done here
