Won't be surprised if Tucker plays tonight

I should add that I also won't be surprised if he doesn't play. :) But given the fact that he made the road trip and dressed for the game at Ohio State, it seems logical that he might actually get on the court tonight.

If he plays, I wish him well, because the other players will have to depend on him. If he stays beyond this semester, I just hope the program doesn't end up getting burned again. He must be looking forward to playing in his first Big Ten game in two seasons at Iowa. That's kind of mind boggling--two seasons, no redshirt, and no Big Ten games played.

A tale of two recruits: Last night while watching a little of the Wiscy game with Jordan Taylor, I was reminded that he just beat Tucker out for MN Mr. Basketball two years ago. After watching them both in the state playoffs in their divisions, I thought Taylor looked like more of a PG and a little more college-ready, but Tucker appeared to be the more potent scorer. I think I heard them say last night that Taylor is leading the nation in assist/turnover ratio. He's been a major contributor to their success the last two seasons, and especially this one.

Meanwhile, Tucker's contribution to Iowa has been...

If they are going to dress him for games there is no reason he shouldn't play. If you aren't going to play him then don't let him dress. At the very least he should be the one that spells Cully.

In my preview/prediction, I state that we'll see Tucker. We'll see though. We'll see.
That should be up mid-afternoon or so, once I have time to put it up.

To be correct.... Tucker was the Metro Player of the Year. Taylor was MN's Mr Basketball.

First of all, let's be honest here: You're just trying to gravy-train off of my bold prediction (i.e., that Tucker might play...or he might not). Implying that you had already come to the same conclusion is just transparent spinning.

Second, where did I say anything implying that Tucker wasn't Metro POTY? Where?! I merely stated, accurately, that Taylor beat him out for Mr. Basketball.

I am sick and tired of you flyspecking all of my posts and stealing all of my good ideas! It's time for a posters' revolt against the admins!

:p

Since I'm not the coach, it really doesn't matter but I felt it was time for him to see the floor at OSU. He's paid his penance, Lick has sent the message, there's just nothing more to gain from holding him out, except to increase (my) perception that Lick is dicking around with him / the situation.

I'm not liking Lick's p.c. answers regarding this, "Well, there's only so many minutes to go around. If he gets minutes, then someone else, who's also been working hard, loses those minutes they have earned." By that logic, how do you ever determine a starting 5? At some point you have to get your better players on the floor. I'd guess L'il Lick and Bawinkel would gladly give up some minutes (and the rest of the guys would gladly accept it to ease their frustrations) if they felt it might give them a better opportunity at some W's. (Tonight, with AT's 3-ball against NW's zone, it is a very winnable game.)

If the intent is for AT to continue to be a part of this program then it's time to move on and continuing to deny him opportunities against Big XI competition only chips away at the future. If the intent is to part ways, then do it already.

If I totally agree with this post, am I stealing your agreeisms, as well?

Dang right.

Also, the minutes things bugs me too. If it's a minutes thing, take them away from the redshirt freshman walk-on that is getting PT. That would make sense, wouldn't it?

I dont have accurate count but many of games Tucker sat out were due to a University decision, not TL. I think he has only sat out 4 games since being allowed to return to practice. Part of that time has to be used to get him in shape and in synch with team.

A part of what TL said was true. With Eric May developing and Fuller healthy and playing well, Tucker not needed as much as he was playing in December.

My feeling is that if he plays tonight, it will be minutes John Lickliter has been getting and possibly Gatens will get more rest too. This all assumes that Tucker has been showing right approach in practice. I assume he has becassue he would be GONE if he wasnt.

Or a "sharpshooting 3 point specialist" who plays no d and has a bad haircut would also be a good candidate. Tucker is a good player. Its time to get him back on the floor. I think he has served his time and then some

Also, Joel Cornette spoke at QB Club on Monday and he said Tucker had a 3.0 GPA last semester. What else can the kid do? FREE TUCK!

By all accounts Tucker has met the required steps as set forth by the university. Tucker is practicing with the team and is now traveling and dressing for games but Lick is still non-commital on whether he is going to play.

I personally think that Tucker isn't going to play another minute for Iowa. If he was going to play AND Lick truly was interested in growing as a team and winning more games then he would have played at OSU last game. We were in foul trouble and needed an outside shooter but Tucker remained on the bench..it truly makes you wonder what in the hell Lick is thinking.

All kidding (with Spanky) aside, I have to think that when Lick allowed Tucker to travel and dress, that was the signal that he's on track to play this season. I would not have been surprised to see him sit Tucker for the semester or even let him go at the end of the semester--and I suppose those things could still happen. But if that were where Lick thought things were going right now, Tucker would not have traveled or dressed--so unless he backslides in some way, I think he'll be playing soon.

I've said many times that if it were up to me Tucker would have remained on scholarship but not on the team this semester, and would be gone thereafter. As time goes on I'm impressed that Coach is sending a strong and clear message to Tucker by making him continue to sit for a while. I still think keeping him in the program is too much of a risk, but if he's going to stay, I just hope he doesn't let Lick and his teammates down yet again.

Lick should play him or run him

I am so tired of licks games.

You are not Bobby Knight coach you have not earned the right to treat people the way that you do!

IMO coaches comments are right on target. What he's essentially saying is Tucker f'ed up and let everyone on the team down. As a result we have kids who practice hard everyday and keep thier nose clean who are getting some of his minutes. To put him right back in the starting lineup sends the message that minutes are only about basketball ability and off the court behavior is a non factor. Running a team that way can lead ot serious moral issues. If he wants his minutes back he needs to earn them and in the coaches opinion he hasn't. I don't think coaches comments would be perceived negatively if the player benefiting (min wise wasn't his son).

When I was a soph in HS I was behind the coaches kid (whom not many liked to begin with) at defensvie end in football on the depth chart. One day the coaches kid went out and got caught stealing car stereos. The school had a conduct policy that sat him for four weeks from practice and games. I started while he was out but as soon as the 4 weeks were up he was right back in the starting lineup. While I wasn't really one of them (he was better than I was) a lot of people resented him for playing right away again. Over the next summer he got a DUI and never played again but the guys on the team never really "forgave" him or the coach for the way they handled it.

How is coach mistreating him? He has held him accountable for his mistakes.
Steps
1. University Requirements
2. Come back to practice
3. Show renewed commitment and cheer for the team
4. Travel and dress
5. Available to play

The team has played better and individuals like Aaron and Eric have improved their play. Tucker was gone for a long time and now must show the right effort , attitude, and show his own improvement to earn his playing time.

Ohhh people also need to be able to draw the distinction with Lick being "non commital" to the public versus what he is to Tucker. For all we know Tucker might know exactly if and when he's going to see the court again.

Ultimately Lick doesn't owe your or I a damn thing regarding Tuckers situation. As long as he and Tucker are on good ground (and from all appearances they are) that's all that matters.

I think the people who want to see Tucker play are the people who think he gives the team a better chance to win than Lil Lick and Bawinkle. If he has done everything asked of him (and it appears he has) then its time to actually put your best team on the floor to try and win

This is my position.

Lick is the coach and I yield to his insight on this matter. Personally, I think Tucker should move on after the season for everyone's sake, but again, up to lick.
If he plays tonite...I would not be shocked. If he starts, color me shocked.
If he sits again...no shock.

As for Jordan Taylor....color me impressed with this kids play.. he has been on fire.
I honestly think he will end up being better than Hughes and Hughes in on my all league team right now.
Mr BB went to the right player in minny that year,no doubt it.
