I wish we were not content with that...
It's not going to make money either way, so there's little reason not to be content with that. It looks like bigger things could be on the horizon, though.

Logic was the 10th best player in the country when she signed on. Then we added Disterhoft (who is going to be something special) and Kastanek (both were top 100 recruits and graded 92 or better). Next year, we have Coley (top 100, graded 92), Christina Buttenham (3-star, graded 90, #25 wing), Whitney Jennings (3-star, graded 90, #24 PG) and Carly Mohns (3-star, graded 88, #60 forward) coming in.
This incoming class is not even considered top 20, don't get me wrong it is a solid class for Iowa. Like I said before the recruiting has picked up but it is not at the level of the top programs like Tennessee, UConn, Stanford, Duke ect. UCLA has a womens version of a Fab Five going on with 5 top 50 recruits. Both Ohio State and Nebraska have top 10 recruiting classes coming in.
Had Al Lorenzen's daughter, Haley, committed to Iowa instead of Florida then it might have been nationally ranked. Bluder should still keep the program winning 20+ games per year and getting into the NCAA Tournament but she still has work to do if they are to compete with the elites.

I wasn't meaning to say that the recruiting has reached an elite level by any means. Just that it's better than it has been in the past, and she's gotten solid results up til this point, so there's reason to believe the future might be better.
Really a bummer that we couldn't get Lorenzen, though. Sounds like she based a lot of it on education, and I can't help but feel maybe she wanted to break out of Iowa City for a while, too.
HoopGurlz: Florida Gators recruit Haley Lorenzen of Iowa City packs a passion for basketball
Yeah, plus she has family down there and that was important to her as well. Big difference recruiting womens basketball players is that they usually care about the education they will be getting. This often gets ignored in mens sports.
You've probably already seen this article, but it speaks about the importance of family being in Florida and the independence factor (as you mentioned).
Lorenzen going with Florida
Im shocked that this many people pay attention to the womens team, especially their recruiting.
Really? I don't see many on here discussing it, mainly Tork and I. The women's team averages over 5000 per home game and there used to be sell outs when Stringer was coach.
Thats my point. 2 is about 2 more than I expected to actually care enough about the womens game to follow their recruiting.
You cared enough to open the thread.
I open up a lot of threads on this site that I dont really care about. More about reading the convo between posters than the actual topic in the thread title.
You care enough about the womens game to care that I dont care about it?
Nope, I could care less. What I do care about are idiots that knock the women's game and those that do follow it.

Many of the people who do care about the women's game and would be inclined to post are made to feel unwelcome.
Maybe JD will create a Women's Basketball Forum.
