Women's Basketball, What's in their future?

This is actually a good question. Even with all the recent accolades given to Bluder she still has not gotten the womens program to that next level. She has had a very Tom Davis like success at Iowa, always good never great. Under Bluder Iowa has never advanced to the Sweet 16. She has had a few good recruiting classes in a row the past few years so now is the time for them to take the next step and make some noise in the NCAA tournament. She passed Stringer on the all time wins list at Iowa but she has almost twice as many losses (163 losses compared to 84). This team has a shot at being one of her best, they already have 19 wins and the most Bluder has had is 23 which was a year they made the WNIT final four.

Very good program, very steady. The issue is that one elite level player can turn your program into a juggernaut overnight and there are very few of those. Frankly, those players look to UConn, Duke or TN first and everyone else second. So unless we luck out and get a great player come out of Iowa that wants to be a Hawkeye, its hard to take that next step.

Just got one. Disterhof is a helluva player. The team really took off when she was inserted in the starting lineup.

That is true, but Disterhof was not going anywhere as she grew up close to the coaching staff as I think her mom played for Bluder at Drake. To hawkinn3's point us Hawk fans get excited when they get a commitment from 1 top 100 player (either mens or women) while the UConn Huskies have 3 of them signed for next season. The recruiting has gotten much better for Bluder over the past few years (Logic's class was considered top 25 I think), perhaps Disterhof can be the one to take Iowa to the next level.

Definitely could use another big. When Doolittle comes out of the game, Claire Till takes her place. Now she is a warrior, and easy on the eyes, but at barely 6"0" she gets beat up. I watched her literally get thrown to the floor several times vs PSU's monster post players.

The top 100 player Bluder has signed for next year is Chase Coley, she is 6-3 and ESPN has her graded at 92 being the 19th ranked forward.

Coach Bluder is a very, very, very good coach and woman. In the women's game today to have such a morally high ground family lady is unusual. She gets good talent, but has yet to get that group that can beyond a first round loss in the NCAA's. She has however been making great recruiting strides, particularly into Minnesota, which is a hotbed of women's talent right now. Her assistants are top notch ladies also! If that is the face of our Universities Women's Program, I for one am ok with it.

I think Bluder has done okay and this year's team looks pretty good. I still think there is a very big difference between an Iowa and a Connecticut or Tennesse ... We are good, but we will never get past the second round (IMO). Under Bluder we have been pretty even - not too high, not too low. She has a lot of wins in her Iowa career - but also a lot of losses.

WBB is diff from MBB in that there is much less parity. No one seems to challenge the blue bloods.

Bluder is a perfect mid level coach in womens college basketball. She does not make waves in the athletic department, runs a clean program, wins just enough to keep a thousand die hard fans in the seats at carver. Iowa like most other colleges is content with that.

This. It is much harder for a team to make the jump to the top 15 or so. I am hoping that Chase Coley can have an impact like Disterhoft this year. With Logic as a senior, it could be Bluder's best shot at the top (maybe Elite Eight).

I wish we were not content with that...

Logic was the 10th best player in the country when she signed on. Then we added Disterhoft (who is going to be something special) and Kastanek (both were top 100 recruits and graded 92 or better). Next year, we have Coley (top 100, graded 92), Christina Buttenham (3-star, graded 90, #25 wing), Whitney Jennings (3-star, graded 90, #24 PG) and Carly Mohns (3-star, graded 88, #60 forward) coming in.
