Women's Basketball Senior Day Content

Well, you are just wrong about that. People have come on here and repeatedly made fun of the athletic ability of female athletes. When you compare them to "Junior High or Middle School" boys that is making fun of them. Rob has defended people's right to have different opinions - for example the quality of officiating. When posters come on here and cast aspersions on other posters by name in threads they have not participated in, may be crossing the line. To suggest that folks are sniffing glue, by name in a thread they haven't posted in seems to me to mean spirited. Finally if you are confused about who we are playing or what names belong to the men and what names belong to the women, my feeling is you are not much of a fan. I've never been confused about whether a thread was about the men or the women.
  • They're not making fun of the athletes. They're making fun of the posters. Big difference
  • Some have been confused in the past. Others pretend to be. I never have and you never have and that's fine.
  • I occasionally contribute to threads on both women's basketball and volleyball and have seen both play first hand. I live in Megan's native state and have connections with her dating back to high school basketball and high school track that probably go deeper than anyone on this board. I've made numerous references to the fact that she is an even better person than she is a player and that's saying something.
  • Anyone who truly makes fun of the female athletes should try playing pickup games with them. Amy (Herrig) Tanny once left me bruised from head to toe.
  • I go back to the days of Lisa Long, Lisa Becker, Robin Anderson, Franthea Price, Molly Tideback, Jolette Law, Michelle Edwards, Jolynn Schneider. I know the names. I just might be more of a fan than you realize.

I agree! All Clinton had to do is label the thread WBB and everything would have been fine. He/she refused. Some like Fry would post something just to raise the ire of some but it seemed to be in good fun. I did like the threads by the way!

Oh I see, you’re the judge and jury when it comes to who are the super fans on here. Many regulars on here have asked Clinton nicely to label his threads and his attitude along with you followers drive people away from the sport. It’s annoying and completely unnecessary to act like that. Before Clinton came on here the WBB threads were always labeled but because of Clinton’s crusade now they are not and it DOES lead to confusion.

If there are a few posters on here who annoy you then block them just as I have with Clinton.

Let me start with, Rob said he welcomed everyone's opinion, I expressed mine. It had nothing to do with the words you added - "judge, jury, super fan" . I did say I had never been confused and thought posters who were really confused were not much of a fan, and I stand by that. You said it was annoying and completely unnecessary (that is not being confused). I ask you, now, why is it annoying and unnecessary? I have seen many threads about Women's athletics that do not label the thread, started by a variety of people. I am not aware of anyone having been driven away by this. I am open to seeing a list if you care to supply one. It is my understanding that Rob is the moderator and makes the rules for posters; so I'm not sure why you or anyone else should usurp his authority to make rules for ClintonIA to follow. We all control only are own behavior. I you are confused, my suggestion is to become more knowledgeable so that you are not confused and avoid trying to control someone else by making up rules for them to follow.

Northside Hawk, I in no way meant to question whether you were a fan or doubt your contributions. I said that posters who come on here and compare the women to "junior high boys' or make fun of their athleticism, by remarking about the way they ,jump or shoot are in fact being derogatory of women's athletics. They do come on here and do that. You may not and I don't recall you doing that. I stand by my comments about the confusion, though. I am glad you are a long time fan as am I, but that doesn't excuse either of us if in the future we act disrespectfully. Posters on this board have done that about Women's Athletics.

Come on hagar, Clinton drives that attitude and you know it. You all now follow his lead when it comes to posting WBB threads, before he came here those threads always started with WBB or something similar. There are no rules when it comes to this sort of thing but when people have asked nicely and tell you it creates confusion then why wouldn't you comply with that simple request?

I've even tried to help Clinton, I've personally emailed Jon asking that he create a women's forum and he ignored me.

is there anyway you could make a forum for the Iowa Baseball team? They are doing pretty well under the new coaching staff and someone on here recently created a thread for the baseball team on the basketball site. Also, what about a thread for ALL Iowa women's sports? That way fans on this site who support Iowa female athletics can create threads not on the men's forums.

Is it hard and pain tasking long to create a new forum?

I took the time to do it this morning. There are now forums for Iowa Women's basketball and Iowa baseball.

Megan Gustafson is something to watch. Every team keys on her, yet she still performs game after game. Her ability to get her shot off is remarkable - an economy of effort. She's the star, but doesn't act like it, except when she's on the court, when it matters.

I wish them well in both tournaments.

I may actually spend more time in this forum. The men's basketball board is depressing.
