Where, what, and who are we, or should we be targeting?? I'm all positive, but is there anybody out there we'll be going after hard? If we lose Woodbury where will that put us?

What I'd like to see is Woodbury commit and then hold onto the other two rides until the spring period. Then you can get a better look at some late bloomers(that always emerge) as well as some of the JUCO talent that might be available.

I still wouldn't care if we pocketed a ride so we could have two in 2013.

Sorry didnt mean Thurman was completely gone(hope not), with the cancelation of visit, grades, and the Shockers breathing down his neck. Macon eliminated us. just looking for the next man in. Are we after Gardner? is he the mystery guest? I like what he has to bring(skill wise, maturity??). WE are SO close to putting together a solid solid class, cant wait to see the final pieces of the puzzle fit in.

to me this is the 5th recruit we are talking about, we lose 4 to graduation, and the main priority isto replace them 1st

Gesell for Cartwright
Ingram for Gatens
Meyer for Archie
? for Brommer

I am sure that we get Woodbury and that is the type of trade i like, so anybody after that is gravy and if we have to hold onto 1 or 2 schollies for next year fine,

one more note we lost basically one major player and a non-playing bench player and got 3, the losses for this year we lose 2 defenite starters maybe a 3rd the jury is still out on that, we have Marble in the wing to replace Gatens so the need for Ingram to be a immediate starter is not needed, Gesell is the apparrent starter to replace Cartwright, if Olaseni does not produce Woodbury appears to be the heir apparrent at centerleaving Meyer to be the solid backup, but if Olaseni impresses he will be the starter and give us a solid 2 headed monster at center, with Meyer as a solid player that can play at the 4 or 5

I don't think Iowa needs to bank 2.

Go get Woody.
Then use at least one more, and use the last one on a JUCO PG or bank that one.

Agree. Although not the ideal scenario, there is still the late recruiting period, post tourney change of hearts due to coach firings and the juco route. I am sure the staff realizes that the success rate is probably around 20%, so not shocking we have missed on a few.

Wow, if anyone thinks the education system in this country is working, take a look at the recruiting headlines. It seems the exception is the kid who doesn't have grade issues these days. Are high schools passing these kids for the hell of it? I realize the term student-athlete is like an honest politician in most cases, but geez....

Yup. Public schools are a joke today. I just graduated and never touched my homework. I had a 3.5, took AP classes, college courses, etc. I don't see how someone taking the basic graduation requirements can't get a 2.5 or above and at least an 18 on the ACT. I got a 25 after my freshman year, and some of these guys can't get a passing score? It's a sad thing, but its the way the system works now I guess.

it's called talent, or lack thereof.

I had a student -- baseball player -- as a senior. I'd made up a summer conditioning program for him, so before I had him as a student I knew his work ethic and his parents -- both of which were terrific. But, my guy wasn't born with the same talent for reading as he was for pitching. It took a year of tutoring to get him up to the minimum SAT to qualify for D2 (he was drafted, and had no-brainer D1 talent, but couldn't get in to a major BB program, so he had no D1 offers).

He got in to D2, and is on track to graduate. Great kid. But school was not his strong suit and he knew it, and it made him work harder to get the most out of the ability that he had.

Trust me, for some kids, an 18 on the ACT takes everything they have in the tank. Everybody is different.

Agreed, I have a buddy that worked his butt off at everything and had to take the ACT a few times to get an 18. Super nice guy, great family, great athlete, good student, just didn’t test well. I didn’t do jack and got a 25 on my first try and never went back. Everybody’s different. Granted he’s way more successful in his post college life than I am and I think it’s because he learned to work hard. I commend him for it and I respect him a great deal.
